Deep thought: Now that everyone seems to drive crossovers, I wonder if there’s really much need for a small, entry-level pickup. It sounds appealing for some applications, but practically speaking most (truly) small pickups aren’t doing much that a wagon, CUV, or van can’t do.

Yes, there’s always a niche for almost anything, but I think this one is very tiny compared to 20 years ago when small Tacomas and Rangers roamed the plains, and your main car was a midsize sedan.
