My dad always tells the story of the first BMW he ever test drove: It was a 1980-something E30 352e. His friend had told him that he needed to check out the new 3-series, the first with a 6-cylinder. My dad had always driven muscle cars and USS Cadillac El Barge-arados.
So he goes on the test drive, and the salesman tells him to turn on to the next road, and mat the throttle, and do not lift. They hit a train crossing and send the little Bimmer flying. When it touched down, the salesman says to him, “See, don’t these land well?”

He bought one that day (not the one he test drove) and has driven BMW’s ever since, almost continuously.
