Absolute bare minimum in my opinion-

1. Recognize when something doesn’t look, feel, sound, or smell right - and stop to check it out. And learn what your gauges mean.

2. Change a tire / fill tire with air

3. Use jumper cables

4. Change bulbs (except maybe where significant bumper disassembly is required)

5. Check / add fluids (oil level and color, coolant, power steering, washer fluid, and blinker fluid ;-)

6. Properly strap/secure items to rooftop (talking about real men of genius here that use twine to secure a mattress while going 75mph on I-80)

7. Know when you’re in over your head and ask for help, from the right people.
