I keep a waterproof cover over my 1984 Lincoln, because a new paintjob would easily cost more than its worth, and that’s before you factor in the 33 year old vinyl top, unfaded velour, and uncracked plastic. I also use it sparingly in winter - never when there’s a heavy caking of salt on the ground, but, if they last sprayed a week or so ago and it rained in between, I’ll take it out.

My newer cars - 2016 Challenger and 2017 Escape just sit in the open. I don’t see the need to protect them much, modern paint and interiors are pretty resilient, and I’m not likely to have either of them long enough to see any real aging signs. Particularly since I don’t own the Escape, and my employer trades out cars on a regular schedule.
