My first car was a 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle, bought when I was 17 for $1,000 from the parents of a friend of mine from school. For whatever reason, they had installed several nylon, I assume temporary, pushrod tubes on the passenger side of the engine, and they leaked.

I was told BY THE OWNERS that the best way to deal with the leaking was to just overfill the engine with oil. Since the air-cooled Beetle didn’t have an oil filter it was impossible for excess displacement to overwhelm the pump. Or something similarly rubbish.

The engine lasted approximately three months.
