I used to regularly drive from NJ to Reston Virginia to meet with my Boss. One time I rented a 2009 Chevy Malibu in NJ and drove down there. The trip down was uneventful. But later in the day my boss and I drove out to Arlington for meeting. We were on our way back, in the pouring rain, in heavy traffic on 495 when I heard my boss let out a sudden scream and point to the dashboard. I looked down to see a large roach emerging from a panel gap between the instrument cluster and dash. Real casual like, he wandered across the dash and into one of the air vents. I started swerving not so much because of the roach, oh, I was plenty disgusted, but my boss was losing her shit and was starting to hyperventilate. I made my way to the right hand lane and pulled over so she could compose herself. I brought her back to the office with no more roach sightings and we went about our day. I didn’t see any more roaches until the next day when I opened the trunk and moved my suitcase and then two more ran out from under the suitcase and disappeared into the car. Needless to say I did not have a very nice 5 hour drive back home, I keep feeling imaginary (or not) things crawling on me. When I got back home I took my suitcase into the back yard and took everything out, piece by piece and shook it out and then put it all into the washer with hot water and extra detergent and ran it a few times. I’m still disgusted and confused about how a vehicle could be infested with roaches. If only that car could talk....
