Vote: DIY Standing Desk

Why: Let's get this one out of the way nice and early. I fully expect DIY to make the top five, and rightfully so - there are million and one ways to make your own standing desk, many of which we've written about around here in large enough volume that a quick Google search will turn them up pretty easily.

I may be coming off sarcastic, but honestly, it's because there are so many easy ways to tweak bookshelves, boxes of stuff, books, pipes, and other materials you have around into a flexible standing desk for pretty close to $0 - if you want to give it a try, there's no reason not to. Money shouldn't be a factor that holds you back, and standing workspaces don't have to be for trendy people with lots of cash to blow.

That said, if you want the flexibility of a desk that can be standing when you want it to be and sitting when you want it to be, lets you spread out everything at the same height, and so on, you might need to look at a more professional option.
