Aaaand on the polar opposite end, Killer Instinct on the original Game Boy was friggin' SPECTACULAR.

Not only did it look good and played fast considering the hardware, it sounded great! Seriously, the music was crisp, catchy and very faithful to the arcade version.

Again, this was on a damn Game Boy that had no color and the weakest specs compared to it's handheld competitors back then! When I see it now, I find it really impressive even considering it was Rare.

Now if I can only find my cartridge...

I enjoyed the hell out of that game. And parallax scrolling! On a Game Boy!

Haha, I just wrote my ode to KI while you posted. Great minds not only think alike, but they also acknowledge well-done ports. I was even gonna post the same vid!

Not the worst excuse for "music" to be attached to the SEGA name...

So, this little article, was just an excuse to promote MK for the Vita?

And you feel almost "obligated to pick up Mortal Kombat for the Vita "? Seriously? Are you for real?

How about feeling "obligated" not seeing your readers as morons and not use stupid excuses for promoting a game you're being paid to do?

So this little post, was just an excuse to bitch about Kotaku's advertising practices?

And you feel that Kotaku is using "stupid excuses" to promote the things they're getting paid to do?

How about looking like a "moron" for not understanding how an editorial website works?

Fuck, at least they're being creative and interesting about it - something I most certainly can't say for most other gaming news sites.

Also, gods forbid that a Kotaku writer actually be excited over an upcoming game, because if they ever mention such a game in a positive light they're obviously contractually obligated to do so.

I think he's just upset that the article is advertising being masked as journalism, which it seems like it is.

Nothing wrong with criticising this I think. He is entitles to his own opinion after all, and has the right to voice such opinion, so are you.

I had this game on the Game Gear though, and it looked better than this. I think it just looks this horrible because we're not seeing it on the GG original screen, and this seems to be on an emulator.

As for the sound, well yea...

At least the Game Gear version had blood in it. I still recall the "sweat" in the SNES version.

well, yeah, there was a blood code you had to put in on every boot, but we had it. For genesis it was abacabb and for gamegear it was 212 down up, then scorpian would say "Get over here!" and it was enabled.

    That's actually... pretty decent.

I mean, put things in context, this is the fighting game the OTHER hand held at the time was getting.

You know, first thing that came to mind was, "What did the palette swap characters look like (Scorpion/Sub-Zero, etc)."

And to redeem the Game Gear's auditory honor, I present you, Power Strike II.

The Game Gear was capable of pretty great sound work, but unfortunately due to it's sales, it's understandable why most dev's wouldn't have put much effort into it. And there was the problem of quick ports as well.

Didn't play the Game Gear version, but I had the Super Nintendo version and loved it.

My cousin had the Genesis version, and that was pretty cool too.
