whoops, fixed. editing error because another senator was originally listed (before posting) as being in support of a pardon when they’ve actually refused to comment on the specifics of what should happen to Snowden.

The titles she HAS earned include: “cultist”, “homophobe”, and “xenophobe”. She was once part of a Hawaiian-based offshoot of Hare Krishna’s, and was very close to the leader, who defectors have said ran the cult very abusively- something Tulsi refuses to accept. Her current husband also has strong connections, and her campaign staff did too.

She was once a strong supporter of her father’s homophobic policies, but since turned around on them, and at least she puts her actions where her mouth is, and fights against restrictive policies.

Tulsi’s not been explicit in any xenophobia, but doesn’t list the myriad of war crimes against foreign people as reasons to not attack foreign countries; instead it hurts families domestically.

Putin must be tired of him.

Snowden didn’t want to face the rap for what were morally defensible crimes. Manning did.

    Manning > Snowden.

To an extent. I don't demand martyrdom from anyone though. What would be the point?

Hard disagree on Manning being excited to subject herself to torture for months on end. Doing the right thing does not deserve to be punished and one is not wrong for refusing to subject oneself to it needlessly.

Meh, Snowden ran away to Daddy Putin instead of facing his charges like Manning did. She faced the music and did her time. Snowden’s a coward by comparison even if his leaks were morally agreeable.

It’s entirely possible to do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Edward Snowden is Exhibit A.

If you were paying attention you already knew what Snowden told us. He exposed it to the world and ran away in shame. The outcome of what he did was good. What he did was not.

Can you decline a pardon? Because if I were Edward Snowden, I would decline a pardon by Trump.

The Supreme Court ruled at least twice that you can refuse a pardon. Accepting a pardon is also acknowledging that you’re guilty for which you’re being charged.

I don’t know what Snowden is going through right now, but I’d be scared to accept a pardon from Trump, and Trump specifically. Best case scenario is Snowden finds Trump on his case, thinking he “owes Trump a favor.”

Assuming Trump isn’t just spitting out his ass—which, let’s be clear 99.99% of the time he usually is—then this would probably be the best move his Administration has made in its entire history. Snowden was an American hero who exposed unconstitutional spying on par with China that was continuing—knowingly, gleefully—under Obama and he wasn’t at all in a hurry to change that. In fact he was quite cross with the hero and wanted to throw the book at him so badly that Snowden’s only chance to not be black bagged or suicide by two shots to the back of a head and fall out of a balcony he had to flee to Russia.

The people who need to be punished for their crimes are basically every person continuing to work for this program to this day.

Was he spitting out his ass when he pardoned the african american woman for Weed dealing? The one Obama refused to pardon? Was he spitting out his ass when he pardoned Roger Stone? Was he spitting out his ass when he promised to take China to the Mat with a trade war and bring mfg back or get fair deals from EU and China? Was he spitting out his ass when he supported Brexit and an Anglo American trade pact? Was he spitting out his ass when he cut corp taxes and created the greatest stock market run and lowest unemployment in 70 years? Was he spitting out his ass when he said the Democrats are anti American globalists that don’t give a fuck about the people and are part of a technocrat takeover of the planet? Landslide 2020.

Most of those, yes. Pardoning Roger Stone wasn’t justice, it was literally the opposite, because Stone tried to protect him. He didn’t bring manufacturing back to the US. I won’t even dignify the last 2 sentences with a response because they’re so stupid.

Trump would expect something from Snowden in return, of course.

It’s also not clear from the tone of the conversation whether Trump is seriously considering a pardon or merely entertaining the idea as a way to paint himself as another hapless target of the U.S. intelligence community.

I can’t imagine he’d do it for any other reason that didn’t somehow benefit him and seeing that Snowden wasn’t one of his minions, I’d think if he was entertaining anything, it would possibly be that he’d maybe pardon Snowden IF he could somehow help Trump win this election. A crazy thought for a batshit crazy administration.

Maybe Putin got tired of the care and feeding of Snowden.  They don’t want him to get sick and die, and he’s probably not particularly useful - it’s unlikely they’d give him a job handling delicate data.

In trying to see the bright side of the current administration, now could be the perfect time to push for a pardon for Alexandra Elbakyan

He should be pardoned if he agrees to serve three years stateside for violating his oath without permission from elected officials and to never profit from his release of classified information.

Assange as well should do 3 years and no profit.

I just love how y’all give Obama a pass on everything, just a minor comment then you move on. There are black men in jail for 30 years for stealing hedge clippers that Obama chose not to pardon. He was an empty suit and a frontman for progressive AG and State Department shenanigans.

Obama couldn’t pardon that man in prison for life for stealing hedge clippers. That was a state crime.
