I look forward to watching this.

I like Marc Maron, I think he’s been pretty open about his self improvement, and is a good example for men as they get older taking a good look in the mirror and being honest with themselves on what they need to adapt, change, or improve to become better people.

He’s not perfect, since no one is, but he’s trying and Maron is also doing god’s work on GLOW, so there’s that too.

Well said regarding Maron’s attempts at self-improvement.

The new material remains great, but I noticed quite a few lines repeated from previous specials.

Re-using material across specials seems increasingly taboo among comedians, and Maron’s fanbase seems likely to notice.

Is it a straight re-use or perhaps revisiting a previously-addressed topic from another angle after additional reflection?

He has said on his latest WTF episodes that if this doesn’t get a profound reaction from media (or something, he was vague), that he is going to seriously consider his own relevancy as a standup. It seems even though this review is decent, it is not going to hit the high mar[c] he was hoping for.

From the sound of it, he expected think pieces about this special from major publications, specifically NYT, or New Yorker. I have a feeling he might be disappointed, but I am curious to hear what he has to say about his reaction to others’ reaction.

I think as long as you cushion any critcism with the caveat ‘It’s kinda my fault’ he can’t really get mad.

It saddens me when people I like for being left of center want to be loved by the boring mainstream. Don't wish to be vanilla! That's Jerry Seinfeld's job!

Yeah, have been a Maron fan? stan? for a couple of decades now...but in a weird way.

So often just angry about him...on his podcasts- for his constant need to drag super personal childhood trauma and parental abuse out of his guests because that is obviously what he thinks he has lived through himself.

He has obviously reached a level where he is convinced that he can do no wrong and it is very often infuriating but...

Having watched this .....I am just..in love.

    Just perfect. Tone ...pitch. structure....everything.

The worst part is: Now after decades of not contacting him in any way...I now have to let him know just how amazing - in every way- this set was..

    Fucking bastard

I don’t love the MCU (actively bored by it at this point) but found that material a little annoying, particularly given his presence in Joker. I know he viewed that primarily as a chance to work with DeNiro and Phoenix but still.... I actually agree with the “fandom = religion” take, I just thought he was needlessly (shittily) focused on Marvel. ALL fandoms have strongly toxic, zealous elements.

Related to this, I have never been happy with his views on film generally, which I find to be mostly pretentious. (Which is why I quite enjoyed the self-aware jokes about “grownup” movies having vague endings and being more interested in creating post-viewing conversation than telling stories)

Watched this last night. Didn’t really gel for me. I enjoy Maron’s standup and podcasting (and, probably most of all, his acting) but this didn’t have the energy or insight I wanted/needed.

Also, we’re getting too generous with the standing ovations after stand-up specials. Not sure if this hour was so compelling that it earned the standing O, but, I’m also a curmudgeon.

The last 15 minutes are some of the funniest material I’ve ever seen by anyone, and the contrast of that piece to the rest of the special (which is good but much different) was incredible. Given the darkness the world is going through right now, the ability to laugh hysterically while I watched this on an iphone was a great respite.

I’m sure Pence would be thrilled to know how he was portrayed.   I won’t be able to look at that face again in quite the same way.   No spoilers here, but everyone should watch this.

Generally speaking I find Maron’s humor to be clever and thought provoking, essentially the polar opposite of Chris Delia and Bill Burr

Please spend more time with Bill Burr. I can only hope to surmise, that your opinion of him is as a result of inexperience/ignorance. Otherwise, congratulations on the troll trigger.

Bill Burr’s wife doesn’t even want more time with him. Explain to me what exactly am I supposed to be missing other then his unfunny attempts to blame minorities and women for the rise of Donald Trump
