Seriously. I like Bethesda in general (ignoring the occasional 76). I try to pay attention to what they release. I knew ES online, main series with new eventually coming, even the mobile game. I had not heard about this at all, which is odd considering there’s even three articles about it linked here and I can’t recall reading any of them.

It’s actually a solidly ok game with a decent pve setup to it.

Huh, have people gotten tired of all the digital card games? But there’s so many to choose from... oh.

In all honesty, the release of MTG: Arena was likely the death knell for all digital CCGs not named Hearthstone (and even that may now be in danger). MTG is designed in such a way that it always trumps other CCGs in terms of deck possibilities. Whereas others bake many of the same mistakes into their core rulesets, permanently hamstringing their formats. (EG giving units “health” instead of “toughness”)

Some very smart person(s) in the room during the conception of MTG argued very strongly that defense should be just as important as offense. Virtually no CCG designer since got that memo.

Has a single online card game outside of hearthstone and magic arena done well?

Gwent, the Witcher one, seemed to be doing alright at least.

If you had written this before the first expansion, I would have full-throatedly agreed with you. Ever since then, though, the devs have made it abundantly clear they had no idea how to juggle the various mechanics they introduced, as well as how to manage 2+ EXTREMELY vocal factions who got pissed off the second a whiff of nerf crossed their nostrils

I spent about 60 bucks on Gwent, I don’t regret it, but that game became a turd the second the devs started listening to Skellige and to a lesser extent Sco players

I thought this was about the Elder Scrolls mobile game, which will probably also die. It’s constantly screaming at me to play by touting sales on chests and whatnot, but I’m done. I had enough of repetitive questing where the rewards were dismal and the amount of gold you gained was just enough to repair your gear afterwards.

I’d much rather Bethesda kill of ES Blades. ES Legends is pretty good from what little I’ve played and I like that it has a story campaign. I’m not really a CCG guy so the story is what interested me most.

That’s unfortunate. I rather enjoyed the game and its campaigns (not too big a fan of playing other people) I suppose I can still play it all but it’s sad it won’t be getting more updates.

This is good in the long run. Bethesda as a company needs to move away from looking at other companies’ hands and trying to make it all work for them.

This was the best CCG. All i have left is Magic Arena and Hearthstone.

RIP to a just ok TCC. You weren’t the best, you weren’t the worst, but ultimately a bit forgettable.

I haven’t really played it outside of a bit of the beta. I always wanted to go back to it but I’ve been distracted by my consoles and the Switch.

Did the game have any sort of offline mode?

No, unfortunately. Even the campaign missions needed to be connected to a server.

Well that’s disappointing, but not really unexpected. I could see a game like ESL stick around for good if they didn’t need to tie it to the server for the micro-transactions.

I’m starting to dislike the live service model of games more each day. It’s a good idea on theory, but if I can’t keep playing once the servers go down then I’d rather not play at all since it’s inevitable these games will be unplayable at some point.

Well, this is a bummer. Even though I stopped playing pvp around the time Sparkypants took over, I still play pve arena every day.

On the flip side, a new friend got me back into Mtg recently, so it’s nice that I can focus more on that.
