Taking all that SUV size for granite. Drivers must have rocks for brains.

The reason given as to why they drive up on the rock are more or less the same reasons why pedestrian fatalities are up.

SUVs like that are too high and thus, limits the ability to see things down low... like rocks and people.

Tied in with that, I believe another factor is some of the lousiest drivers choose large SUVs to compensate for the lack of safety their lousy driving causes them.

The rock was probably texting and wasn’t paying attention to the cars and deserved to get driven over.

See that’s the thing about driving a huge ass SUV everywhere you go, normal curbs don’t mean anything to you anymore. The drivers are used to being able to just run them over with reckless abandon, and now they’re upset at the expense you’re forcing them to incur by modifying their soccer-mobile in such a way that it can drive over giant ass rocks with the same reckless abandon.

Paying attention to where curbs and other obstacles are is not a reasonable suggestion.

More often than not, I see full sized trucks and BOF SUVs going out of their way to avoid small curbs and even mildly off-road parts of the road.  I’m in my sedan just wondering...what am I witnessing?

Curb in the way of your u-turn? Better make it a 3 point turn.

Small patch of gravel or grass standing between you and a completely free left turn lane? Better wait until traffic moves out of the way.

Speed hump in the road? Minor incline into a driveway? Better slow down to 2mph.

*Also refuses to actually use their SUV’s ground clearance*

My neighbor growing up had no curbing, it just went Lawn >street. In the winter it was really common for people to drive over his lawn because it was on the outside of an uphill corner. They put in landscaping rocks in...and it was amazing how many people bumped into them in the winter. remember this is an UPHILL turn to the end of a residential circle...speed and sliding off wasn’t the issue, they were just used to cutting wide. A landscaping rock on the other side of the street got our boat trailer once, as the trailer cut a sharper corner than the truck and the rock smashed in a fender and took out a tire.

The end-unit townhouses behind me have the same issue with garbage trucks and snow plows. All the towns are rear-load so they are accessed by alleys and no curbs. One neighbor has tire marks through the corner of their yard and I have watched snow plows the HOA hired during snow storms miss the edge of the road and plow up parts of their yards. One person put one of these out in the corner and it was run over.

We lived right on a curve growing up, and cars were regularly in ours and our neighbors’ yards (usually late weekend nights). One neighbor’s prized weeping willow was in danger, so he ended up sinking wooden “pilings” into the corner of his yard...

To not feel where you’re going either.

95% of SUV’s are bought to the driver can float/smash through smaller obstacles with reckless abandon

I want to come up with some defense of the drivers here but....that rock isn’t exactly in the middle of the driving lane and they even painted the curb yellow.  This is just shitty driving

How many of these people were talking or texting on their phones?

Seriously, when adapting to new to me cars, I occasionally curb hop with my rear inside tire.  But this is a new level of bad driving.
