I always figured the reason Trump doesn’t want his tax returns released is less to do with getting Russian money and more to do with the fact that it’ll expose once and for all how fucking broke he is.

I don’t think Trump has basically anything in the form of cash assets and he’s leveraged to high hell, which explains why he keeps declaring bankruptcy. That’s been his bag his entire career; take out huge loans he has no intention of repaying, pay bottom dollar to plaster his name on someone else’s project, then pocket all the bread he can. He’s made the calculus is cheaper to pay for lawyers and settle lawsuits than it is to pay what he owes to people.

He had to go to the chosen bank of Russian oligarchs because they were the only ones who would lend to him. Trump has always obviously been fake rich. He's a five year old's approximation of what being rich is.

Of course.. anything that can expose the lies he tells he’s against. He wants the world to go by what he says he is, rather than what he actually is. Its why h goes after the schools that could expose his records showing he’s NOT the greatest student to grace their doors.. Basically anything that can tear down the image he so wants to present, he will defend.

Mark my words...after Trump is felled by his country ham sized heart, the greatest show on Earth will be watching Melania, Ivanka, Eric and Donny Jr tear each other apart over whatever is left. Like starved vultures ripping away at sun-dried cattle entrails.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, on Trump’s balls, not only formally denied a request by Congress to release Trump’s tax returns for the past six years, he’s decided on his own that Congress is overreaching, so he’s vowed not to release them.

Steve should have been put in jail a long time ago. He ran One West Bank, which committed massive fraud and illegal foreclosures, and got super rich in the process. This guy is scum.

Not only that, but how do you independently “decide” that Congress is “overreaching” and  refuse to do your job, when it’s literally written in the law for him to release the returns, regardless of what -he- thinks? If I get a ticket,I can’t just “decide” the police are “overreaching” and just not pay it,because not only will I end up with bigger fines (which he should get for this stunt),but maybe even jail time (which he should also get for this stunt).

That would be my next move instead of all this subpoena stuff-start fining and jailing folks, and see how quickly they decide to act right.

      Actually its not..

There is no law that says a president (or candidate) must give their tax returns.. Its just something that is done to show how “moral” and “honorable” they are... And that’s part of the problem.. If someone wants to buck the trend, legally they are correct.. but its like punching a puppy on your property.. legally, you can do it.. but NO ONE is going to feel sympathy for you for doing it.

Especially when you “claim” to be ethical/honorable/nothing to hide.

I’m just mad that this wasn’t hammered home way back during the run up to the election. All that BS about “I can’t release my taxes cause I”m under audit” um...except you could. He knew his whole game would fall apart if it got put out there, and a vast majority of Americans chose to not hold him to task for it,with their gullible asses.

Bottom lilne is,either he lied about his taxes when filing them all these years (a crime),or he didn’t lie,and he’s broke and an awful businessman (which he’d HATE to have out there). Either way,not a good look.

He can spin it either way: tax returns show he makes a lot of money? “I’m a very smart businessman.” tax returns show losses: “that’s just an accounting trick, I did GREAT those years. Which proves I’m a very smart businessman.” About the only way it can hurt him is if it shows substantial Russian money, which he’ll just call “fake news” anyway. Whatever happens, his base will eat up the lies he tells and the more moderate elements of the Republican party will shrug it off because they have no conscience.

This is the exact bottom line. You can’t have it both ways. So which is it, President Pig Vomit?

Dude wasn’t losing money, he was committing fraud and moving it. He wrote up losses of other people’s money as his own, and then used the “value” of the “losses” to write off his own taxes and move money somewhere else.

A shitty grift and a shameless one, but pretty basic

Well, and he had help. I’d be real interested to know who those agents were who let him slide failing to pay taxes for eight years, and who those specific bankers were who lent him more money based on those inflated assets he showed them — that is to say, based on his lies, and giving him the same “benefit of the doubt” because he was a rich-looking white man and a professional con artist that Benjamin Wittes gave Bill Barr even though there are records and reports of him misrepresenting official DOJ reports back in 1989 and pardoning all the convicted felons from the Executive Branch in the Iran Contra scandal in ‘92..

I bet one of those bankers worked at Deutsche Bank, and I bet his last name is Kennedy.

“Trump is a con man who has lied his whole life to America...”

And white America will continue giving him a pass as long as he keeps feeding their need for scapegoats, not to mention the usual diet of anti-blackness. Trump is conspicuous white privilege.

That is a fairly big part of the problem. First Rule of Con Man: “The mark wants to believe the con.”

Those aren’t the people we need to be listening to anyway, though. Besides being complete bigots — it’s harder to show someone they’ve been conned than to con them in the first place, because that’s the part they don’t want to believe.

This is hard because it’s not just law, not just politics, not just finance. It’s also psychology, which is a thing a lot of (ironically) easy-to-con people don’t even want to believe exists.

Elie Mystal does too -- has jokes, that is -- as well as some commentary about Moochin’ Mnuchin’s potential accessory liability

I loves me some Elie Mystal (even though he’s long been overly critical of the Obama administration, for reasons I can only wonder at) for his terrific political insights, but also because I’m pretty sure one of his daily goals is to insert a geek reference into every one of his appearances on talking head pundit shows. Dude will reference Cardassian gaslighting techniques during one topic (“there are four lights!”), and then turn around and use Superman/Bizarro and Green Lantern/Sinestro to illustrate the differences between opposite and inverse on the next. The man is a keen legal mind, and a treasure.

Don Lemon is such a cornball, yet watching him throw shade at Mango Unchained is still amusing. That, and every once in a while when he gets fed up with the white nonsense and lets his inner black dude show on camera.

None of this is really news though. We new Trump had a $1 billion NOL carry forward during the 2016 campaign, which is why he never pays any taxes... or at least one of the reasons why.
