Can the entire west coast just change the locks and form our own country?

The East Coast is ready as well. Then again Pennsylvania has some explaining to do.

The states looking to do this weren’t going to go red this time around anyway (or likely/hopefully ever again?) so it’s not that big of a blow to Trump. Meanwhile, the other states that aren’t full blue are doing everything they can to restrict voting. God help America.

Four races in CA flipped blue in 2018 that GOP believes they have a shot at winning back and there are two districts which the Dems think they can flip leaving the GOP if the Dems hold onto their seats with just 5 GOP House members in 2020. It’s not just about Trump but crippling the party in CA and retaining control of the House. CA got screwed in particular by the 2017 Tax Bill the GOP does not want to be talking taxes going into 2020.

That was my first thought - he doesn’t care because he will never win California - but the issue becomes the primary. Trump would have won the nomination without the 172 delegates he picked up in California, but if other states follow suit (like Illinois, New York, Washington, and New Jersey where he picked up about 240 delegates total) then he might not be able to win the nomination and probably could not have in 2016.

      Here’s a Republican primary map:

Trump would not have been nominated without Blue-State-Republican support.

Primary season seems to be a lot about momentum as well. It’s a dumb way to elect somebody, but it happens. That’s why states keep moving earlier or combining with other states to make things like “Super Tuesday” a thing. So if a candidate has to sit out a bunch of states that can hurt as well.

“I get that playing the resistance card may be good politics for the majority party, but I would submit that it’s bad policy for Californians,”

Did Sen. Brian Jones expand on this at all? Did he not proceed to explain exactly how a presidential candidate releasing five years of taxes to the public is “bad” for the people?

This.  I’d love to hear how releasing information that could inform the people on corrupt practices would be a bad policy...

It’s not just about is he overstating his wealth. Of course he is.

It’s about did he really separate himself from Trump properties, because if not that means he is using his office (Barf Bag had a link to just some example of qusetionable acts at Mar a Lago yesterday) to enrich himself. And it likely means he is in violation of the emulmants clause of the constitution.

And let’s not forget that Mr anti immigration might have been actively employing illegal immigrants, if his sons were not right up until this winter.

The president of the United States, or as he called in Russia, “Putin’s bitch,”

I thought that’s what we called him in the US too.

Do the Republicans resisting this realize they’re admitting Republicans would be uniquely hurt by revealing the source of their wealth?

Because Democrats would have to release their taxes as well...

I hope to see enough states pull this move to the point where it would be nearly impossible for any candidate to be able to win the presidency without releasing their taxes. I get the idea of keeping one’s taxes private for personal reasons but once you choose to dictate policy for all of America, it’s paramount to prove you aren’t being guided by putin.

SOOOOOO much of the problems we’re dealing with now are all based around “civility” in politics. That certain things didn’t need to be coded into law because everybody involved could be trusted to do the right thing.

George Washington stepped down after 2 terms, so it was expected that everyone would step down after 2 terms, and then FDR stayed getting re-elected, so Republicans amended the constitution to enshrine 2 terms as the maximum.

It was never illegal for a secretary of state to oversee an election that they were participating it, because it was assumed they would do the right thing. Political parties in charge of local governments could gerrymander their own districts because it was assumed they would do the right thing.

Tax returns should be no different. Trump has shown that civility in politics is dead now. If people see an opportunity to bend the law, they take it. A lot of these systems were set up when the only people who could vote or be a politician were rich white dudes. As demographics change, you’re starting to see how people will manipulate those systems to maintain that party.

    Stay woke. Don’t trust “civility”
