Hopefully they start with asking Jezebel to quit attacking people for having mental health issues. As someone that’s been hospitalized for ... issues, it goddamn kills me the way they gleefully (and repeatedly) shit on people like Pete Davidson. I tried calling them out on it after their last article about him, and got banned from all their sites as a result. The Root has always been gazillion times better in every way shape and form, but Jezebel’s attacks are a bad look for the collective

To anyone and everyone struggling, it is fine to not be fine. It’s not an indictment on you, it’s not your fault, it’s not something you have to go through alone, and it IS ok to ask for help.

Our battles are all unique to us, but shared and connected in ways that aren’t always apparent.

I have had depression and anxiety since I was around 6 or 7 (early- to mid-‘80s). I spent decades as an emotional chameleon and did not address any of it until 2014. While attempting to address my behavioral issues, I was saved from two suicide attempts - that were two years apart - by the same person (she is the Han Solo to my Chewbacca, so I will be paying-off my “life debt” for the rest of our time here together).

It’s very heartwarming to see The Root take-up this subject with aplomb. I am very much looking forward to following along this month. Thanks for doing this, y’all.
