    A few questions...

Why can you change your name to ANY racial slur on Twitter (or any other social media for that matter)?

Why the hell do you have a bot running a customer facing customer service social media account? Did they not anticipate trolling? ON FUCKING TWITTER OF ALL PLACES???

Who the fuck thought that apology was going to be sufficient?

It may not be sufficient, but it's a damn sight better than the average 'we're sorry you were offended' non-apologies.

This is basic shit, seriously. At the very least you have a flat file of words that the system doesn’t use or allow, period. You can make an argument that Twitter shouldn’t be allowing public handles like that anyways, but you have to develop as if they don’t and won’t, so ultimately it’s on Uber to actually employ coders that have a fucking clue. Wow, that’s stupid.

Or just use the handle in your reply rather than the display name.  It would be much simpler to maintain - and much more transparent if something went wrong.

As far as trolling goes, this was not a bad piece of work. I had no idea Twitter would just auto-grab something so appalling in a reply.

One would also have to ask how twitter allowed a user to use the n word as their alias.

Do you want Twitter to ban everyone from using that word? How are they supposed to decide who’s allowed to use the n-word and who isn’t?

I’m sure that Uber could have written a script which looks for objectionable words before auto-populating them into the bot-replies.  That would have been a good option and I hope that’s the route they take moving forward.  But I know we aren’t lobbying for Twitter to have a blanket ban on objectionable language.

Seriously. If Thanos could have chosen which half of the population to snap away, he’d be the hero of the movie.

Holy shit, I’ve been thinking that exact thing since I saw the first film: if only Thanos had thought it through.

But even if that’s the case, I’m gonna need Uber to be a bit more careful with its filters so completely avoidable situations like these don’t come up again in the future.

Corporate Twitter should have learned their lesson after what happened to the Patriots’ Twitter account.  Seems like they have except Uber.

Or to Tay, the chatbot Microsoft released to the wilds last year. I mean, this is something a fresh 21-year-old computer science grad can anticipate.

I’ve seen medieval-themed videogames where a player who named themselves with the word ‘Knight’ had it rendered as ‘K***ht’. It’s not hard to do this with an abundance of caution. That looked silly but it didn’t hurt anything and it made it harder for racist trolls to play their games while displaying their ignorance.
