Asking A Birdman not to soarStephen A. Crockett Jr.

oooohhh out of all the bullshit gentricubes bring to a neighborhood “whining about loud music” is probably a top 3. The sticks that your parents white-flighted to are still there, assholes, and still filled with the silence you crave. Don’t move to a city then complain about city sounds.

I will never understand why people with money to blow chose to move somewhere that’s loud, like near a music venue. All they do is complain until the place shuts down or moves. I know plenty of places in Austin that had to move because of the volume, and they already had to make do with shutting down at ten god damn o’clock at night.

Because it’s not that they have money, it’s that they want to go somewhere cheaper than others, and that has a ‘name’ and ‘vibe’.

They want to live in an area with a name ‘cache’, but not anything that gave it that ‘cache’.

Who *doesn’t* love go-go*? Uber whites who LOVE to unrhythmically sway at any outdoor jam band should dig it.

*Baltimore. I hear Baltimore hates go-go.

DC is the home of go-go. Not that I could actually define or even go “ah, that’s go-go music”, but even I know that much about it.

Whine and complain, the bird song of white people.

Not surprising, since Baltimore’s thing is Baltimore Club.

(Which is actually Jersey Club, but I’m a loyal Marylander so I don’t fight against it too much.)

Maybe these transplants should complain to their building management about charging $4k+/mo. for an apartment with non-existent soundproofing/insulation, but no - attack the vulnerable who were there long before you gave a shit about D.C.

Seriously, man. Paying as much as a fuckin’ mortgage payment for a hastily built “luxury” apartment with a Starbucks and a Whole Foods attached. These places are popping up fuckin’ EVERYWHERE in the DMV, and I don’t know who the fuck is living in them.

I read something that said most of these luxury apartment/condo deals are basically just Airbnb hotels now. Congrats, Karen and Chad, you dropped 50,000 grand on your wedding and now you live in an apartment that can’t keep the cold in and the heat out with no soundproofing, no insolation, and your “neighbors” are people who didn’t want to spring for the Marriott. But yeah, the go-go is the problem.

      Assholes.

It’s basically hipsters, wannabe influencers, and those amongst the gay community who actually aren’t our allies - all of whom lowkey despise black culture.

This an aside (but I’ll never pass up an opportunity to piss off Columbus stans) but here is your daily reminder that Columbus never actually set foot in America.

You should also remind them he was looking for a path to India and got lost. I would crack some wypipo jokes but they are so sensitive to any criticism. Real or imagined.

Fuck them. Blast that shit until their ears bleed and they drag their Indigo Girls, Taylor Swift version of September, Harry Styles listening asses back to where they came from. These same pansies would’ve hated the Bronx in the 70's and 80's, LA in the 80's and any place else where people had fun and tried to have their own piece of the pie.

Can I add Pentatonix to this list? I work w a girl who loves the shit outta them and plays that shit incessantly. Meanwhile, they cover in mediocrity and gentrify every single song by every single artist. Why not just listen to the original version? Sorry, I know this is off topic

No it is on topic. That is what colonizers and gentrification is all about. Taking shit that ain’t yours and trying to take the soul and heart out of it to make it your own. Fnough.

I remember a decade ago driving through the city on nice days with my windows down, usually headed back home after a meeting or site visit in upper Northwest or Bethesda, and taking Sherman or 7th Street down to Florida and then heading East (traffic wasn’t as bad back then). Even if I had my own music playing, it was always enjoyable to hear it blaring from the Metro PCS and really brightened up the corner. To be honest, it wasn’t even that loud - the people complaining are just assholes.

I walked past there a couple months ago when the music was off for some reason and it felt really weird. I didn’t like it.

So, can we start complaining about too many politicians and lawyers in DC and get them kicked out?

As a DMV resident who works in DC and has learned a little about Go-Go in my time here, can you explain this comment

“an audio history of a Chocolate City that only exists in memory”

I ask because I seem to hear the music quite frequently. For example, even the football squad’s station (Team 980) has a “Go-Go Thursday’ theme on the drive time radio show etc. Does this stuff (outside of Chuck Brown’s) really only exist on YouTube? Honest question.

They are referring to when there were more black residents and yes gentrification has reduced the number of venues where it’s played from when I was growing up.
