Every time I ask someone what more was Obama was supposed to do for the black community, I either hear crickets or things that only a dictator or king would do. It just proves that a lot of fucking people don’t understand what the president can and cannot do.

I also ask them what THEY have done for the black community; I also hear crickets. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It really is sad that during my lifetime, he’s probably done the most I can think of off the top of my head than any of them ever have, and people still act like he hasn’t done enough. Obama accomplished things the Clintons couldn’t and even managed to undo some of the crap they stood by to get re-elected. Got us through the recession. Ended DADT. Took out Bin Laden. Improved Title IX. The freakin ACA. Gay marriage legal. The first black president. He wasn’t perfect by any means but damn. Let’s not act like he didn’t make the country much better as the first of his kind while others tanked it with a lot more experience and leeway.

      Took out Bin Laden.

Damn straight! Unless you listen to folks on the right, who somehow claimed Obama acted like HE took out bin laden.

Although, according to Trump, the Navy Seals were at fault for not capturing him sooner. You know if Trump was president, he’d been caught immediately.

    Here’s how my day on Splinter News went today;

1.) Logged onto Splinter because I was bored at work and hate myself.

2.) Clicked article about Elizabeth Warren condemning white nationalism.

3.) Scrolled down to comment section.

4.) Saw the comment with the most stars was one condemning Obama for not calling out white nationalist organizations as terroists.

5.) Logged the fuck off and wondered why I even bothered.

This is why I don’t read anything over there. I remember that infuriatingly condescending article by some editor over there blaming Obama for Trump and that he should be doing more after leaving office.

    Millenials Don’t Vote

In 2010, as the Tea Party started the whitelash against the Obama Administration, (White) Millenials were so upset that Magic Negro Obama hadn’t fixed all their problems so they stayed home instead of voting in the mid-terms.

It was more than just the (white) millenials. It was all sorts of people, though admittedly some far worse than others. It’s sadly nothing new though, nor was 2010 the only time. 2014 was yet another instance of people who proclaimed that Obama wasn’t “doing enough” staying home, thereby taking away Democratic votes in Congress and thereby empowering the very fucking Republicans who were doing their damndest to make sure he WASN’T GOING TO GET ANYTHING ELSE ACCOMPLISHED.

White Millennials: Obamacare is the worst thing ever and didn’t go far enough and only exists to protect the insurance industry.

Me: Actually because of Medicaid expansion Obamacare has literally saved the lives of me and several of my family members, and while I’d argue that universal health care is a thing we all need, saying Obamacare doesn’t work isn’t really truthful, because it does, Mr. I’m Mad Because I’ve Aged Off My Parent’s Insurance and Now Hate Paying Premiums Out of My Pocket.

White Millennials: Okay, sure, it’s helped some people, but it didn’t help WHIT—UM,ER,WHAT I MEANT WAS it didn’t help ALL people, therefore it was bad!

If white people don’t feel the full effect of something, then it’s like doing nothing, especially if it’s a black man doing it. On the flip side, if some mediocre white man promising to solve all your problems, he’s a savior and a revolutionary even if he’s never accomplished anything and won’t explain how he’s going to do anything, because he made them feel better.

You forgot a couple of things obama did for black america:

    - Obama phones! The fact that black people could just get the government to send them new iphones every 6 months was so cool. I was very upset it was limited to just black people (as I understand it, since no white person ever reported getting an obama phone).

    - Fashion! He taught us that wearing a tan suit is very similar to pissing on the US flag, then using it to wipe yourself after taking a dump. I never knew this before he was president.

    - Michelle! If he didn’t become president, we’d never have got to know his lovely wife, even if she tried to tell people that their kids shouldn’t eat lots of sugar and fatty foods.

    - Open Racism! Before Obama, most white folks would have told you “racism, what racism?” because it wasn’t that visible. After he got elected, well, all the racists came out of the woodwork and made sure they were seen (the only president who regularly dealt with people protesting his presence by openly carrying guns nearby - as a ‘warning’ not to take their guns away!).

    - Ending racism! Didn’t you hear, we elected a black man! No more racism!

Oh, and you can draw a line that says Obama led directly to the election of Trump.

      So Thanks Obama!

One black man was to undo 400 years of racism and hate in just 8 years, not to mention those very same people were all to happy being racist and hateful.

They say we have to work twice as hard to get half as much. Well, Obama would’ve had to work 100x as hard to overcome 400 years of white supremacy. 8 years x 100 is 800 years. The math checks out!

Tavis Smiley, polysyllabic know-it-alls who present contrarianism as intelligence

This is the best description of Tavis Smiley... ever!

    And...

The expectations for the Obama presidency were ridiculous. He did what he had to do to be effective, including his moderate stance. If he was white, he would have been a good president. However, he was great due to the obstacles that were set before him and actually got things done. Detractors will continue to say he did too little or made things worse while ignoring those (Boehner, McConnell) that did everything to stop him.  The man had a hostile Congress, blatant racism, and personal attacks and still got it done.  It was truly remarkable.

It also has to be taken into account just how rare Democratic presidents have been. Before Obama there was Clinton in the 90's...and before that was one-termer Jimmy Carter, and rarely have any of them had enough Congressional support to do anything other than incrementalism.

Honestly, you look back on the ACA and it’s a miracle that even the pared down version passed. The Clintons spent ALL of their political capital trying to get a slightly more solid plan (an employer mandate) through and that lost hobbled Bill for the rest of his presidency.

So, Obama gets in there with some GOP leaders who are not quiet about them wanting to ruin him from the beginning and he was supposed to somehow get more done?

    BTW, this...

    who present contrarianism as intelligence

I’ve never seen anything more perfect to describe people like Tavis Smiley, white or black or otherwise. People equating contrarianism with being smart. That somehow if you can hold an unpopular opinion, it makes said opinion more likely to be true. I wish this would die. Contrarian opinions can often be intelligent, but their contrarianism doesn’t make them so.

    • 25% of black households now live below the poverty line as compared to eight percent for white households.
    • The black unemployment gap was twice the white unemployment rate under Obama.
    • Black wealth actually declined under Obama.
    • Trump has the black unemployment rate at an all-time low.
    • What about the violence in Chicago?

Oh, you mean the largest historic in the nation’s history since the fuckin’ Great Depression isn’t really to blame for this? Fooled the hell outta me. I’m so tired of this tired-ass talking point.

Here, try this: Imagine where this nation would have been had he not be elected. And then come back to me and explain how he made things worse than they would have been. I didn’t even like the “hope & change” bullshit, but I learned to respect the cliff he kept us from falling off of.

You wanted John “The Fundementals of the Economy are Strong” McCain in November 2008? Yeah, nah, I’m good. I’m still good with Obama having been president.  Stop trying me.

Its just another iteration of the magical negro syndrome. Obama and by extension Black people cannot cure racism. That is something white people need to do. And since its on them to do the right thing, racism will be here until the Sun dies.
