The beauty in the Jackson’s sentencing is that with good off, Manafort gets about 432 days off his sentence (54 days a year, IIRC).

There is no practical way Manafort can do less than time, and get a pardon in any reasonable time from Trump , maybe just prior to Trump leaving office.

Eights years on a man already 69 years old, especially in prison after a life of wealth, will probably be hard.

Jackson boxed Manafort in to make him work quick and fast with Mueller, particularly in the threat that a Dem candidate wins the next presidency with no chance of pardon. But... my math is probably off somewhere.

( I forgot - Manafort has already been locked up for nine (?) months.)

At this very moment, a pardon is worth the exact same amount as an endorsement of your business venture by Ja Rule. Republican president in 2020 or Democratic president in 2020 - it literally makes no difference. The Manhattan prosecutors sliding in Manafort’s DMs with sixtyeleven indictments, IMMEDJEATLEE after his D.C. sentencing, is about the most disrespectful respectful thing I’ve ever seen. None of these state charges can be pardoned by any president, regardless of party. It’s a good day to be sipping something in the early afternoon, is my point.

“No one is beyond the law in New York,” Vance said

Notice he said “No one”. Hopefully this isn’t a case of me reading too much into something.

Also it may be good to note that this indictment was under seal right until the fed judicial system was done with Manafort.

I wonder how many more sealed indictments the NY DA has. ;).

I bet there is at least 3 indictments with the last name Trump as the subject.

They also kept it under seal because they needed to make sure there was no overlap in their case and that of what Manafort was being charged with, for that would be considered violation of double-jeopardy laws in NY (not all states prevent a state AD from trying someone for a crime that was tried in federal court, but NY is one of them).

You are not reading into it. The Southern District of New York does not play. Ask El Chapo.

Should (when) Trump pardon(s) Manafort, please no one tell him that a pardon removes the right to plead the fifth. AND lying to investigators or to Congress or a court would *still* get him perjury charges.

Given Manafort’s proximity to all Trump inc’s dirty deeds, he will almost certainly be called to testify in future trials. He has no idea what information investigators have. When he lies, he will be caught. The only thing which could possibly insulate him from perjury charges in such a scenario would be already serving what is effectively a life sentence.

This (formerly) rich bastard has a lot more time in court and behind bars in his future.

Now I want to say lying to Congress after accepting a pardon isn’t just perjury charges, it invalidates the pardon too.

Unless you get a pardon from all crimes you ever commit or committed with regards to x, y, and z, and you convince the judge that means any crimes you commit trying to cover up the crimes after getting the pardon are covered by the pardon.

And we know what the judge will say. “Mr. Manafort, you are correct. Someone get me a beer! I like beer!”

No, she could have sentenced him for the full ten years, but walked it back with some bullshit explanation about how he’s not Enemy #1.  She’s a goddamn fraud, too.

“No one is beyond the law in New York,” Vance said. He added that the investigation by the prosecutors in his office had “yielded serious criminal charges for which the defendant has not been held accountable.”

Nobody caught him saying “except the police” under his breath?

Manafort is going to jail for multiple, high-level crimes stemming from his activities with Donald Trump. Cohen is cooperating with Mueller’s investigation and has made dozens of allegations about the criminal actions of Donald Trump. And yet, the Trumpettes still can’t believe that Trump is a criminal and a traitor.

    Talk about being willfully delusional.

I’m just trying to figure out what the fuck you have to do in and to this country as a wealthy white man to get a sentence over a decade? The guy has literally been scheming against the United States for decades and is up to his eyeballs in mob ties, but apparently he’s not “Enemy #1,” because that’s totally not a straw man argument or anything right?

The State of New York is going to nail this guy to the wall after this federal shit, god willing.
