I find it hard to believe anyone actually told you that.

I’m surprised that this didn’t get buried on Bolsonaro’s watch. I cautiously await the trial.

I too am surprised.  Even if the system is pre-screwed to find the two ‘not guilty’, awareness has already been raised.  I wonder who these two angered to have this come even this far?

      Right!

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro and his sons were in the spotlight on Tuesday over their ties with two suspected killers, reviving a sense of unease over his administration.

The day started with a police raid on the gated community in Rio de Janeiro where the president lives. One of his neighbors, a former police officer, was arrested for the murder of Marielle Franco.

The police officer in charge of the investigation, Giniton Lages, said on Tuesday that the fact the alleged killer lived near the president was “not significant at this time”. But in response to a journalist’s question he acknowledged that one of the president’s sons had dated the suspect’s daughter.

In a separate raid in another part of the city, police arrested a second man for the killing of Franco. Brazilian media, including Folha de S. Paulo, subsequently published a photo of this suspect, Elcio Queiroz, in a friendly embrace with the president.

I’m glad they’ve been caught, but what will their punishment be? Marielle Franco’s assassination is still heartbreaking.

“But the public still does not know who ordered the assassination of Franco.” True, but i’m pretty sure most Afro-Brazilians with a sense of history will whisper in your ear who ordered her murder.

Actually I think the arrest is farce! We know eventually they’ll be found not guilty and rewarded with posts in the military or security forces. Bolsonaro has expressed encouragement & admiration for precisely those kinds of law enforcement & military thugs. There will be no justice for Murielle Franco, not in today’s Brazil. RIP.

btw, it was cool seeing Russell Wilson & Ciara hanging out in Rio with a couple Afro-Brazilian celebrities. Interesting.

I hate that this article conveniently left out that she was also an openly lesbian woman & LGBT activist. That also played a large part in her assassination, I'm sure.

The author doesn’t seem to have suppressed orientation in past articles, so it may have been a rushed mistake?

Our current president is sitting on his throne right now going “Wait, how come I can’t get some police to off my opposition? All the cool dictators get to do this! It isn’t fair!”

Brazil is being run by a fascist dictator who literally locked up the opposition and promoted the judge who did the sentencing.
But that’s okay because they aren’t socialist and don’t have oil.
