Yeah, this is just a republished NYT Opinion article. And the language is VERY SERIOUS SO YOU KNOW IT MUST BE TRUE!!!

But you kinda lost me when you brought up the truancy program. Only two people went to jail for crimes related to neglect, otherwise no one was being separated or threatened. But it sounds like you know that, because instead of laying it out you insinuate it super sneaky-like. Like it’s not about the truth but about some larger point you’re trying to make, and facts are just malleable.

Good. I know that about you now.

The policy was bad and she shouldn’t have supported it on its face; regardless of the number of families it would go on to affect. Bad policy is bad on paper before it harms anyone in the real world. Any “top cop” should know as much, let alone one billed as progressive. I’ve got no strong feelings about Harris the person or the candidate, but bad policy is bad policy so long as it’s on the books.

      Thanks for reading.

Her decision not to seek the death penalty against Isaac Espinoza, convicted of shooting a police officer in 2004, rankled fellow democrats like Senator Dianne Feinstein,

If anyone ever wonders why DiFi got rankled, check out this picture of her wearing a police uniform in an article about her love of flying the Confederate flag in San Francisco of all places.

^^^ I thought the old timey police radio was a nice touch.

Chris Kelly. As in This Multi-millionaire former Facebook Attorney Chris Kelly.

    Illustration for article titled

A white guy who thought he deserved to be AG of California because he was a law clerk once. The guy who used 9 million of his own tech money to try to beat a more qualified black woman.

And may or may not have sent a stalker into her camp to try and get some incriminating video.

    Why even quote this guy?

But in the end Sen. Harris admits she made a mistake.

“No excuses,” Harris said, sitting in a small, windowless office near the U.S. Capitol. “The buck stops with me.”

But I guess fuck us right? Don’t even look toward the woman of color if they even breathe the wrong way.

It should go without saying that pretty much the only time a whopping majority of “conservatives” actually say we should do the right thing is when it’s bad for liberals and progressives. I always take things like this with a grain of salt, given the source, but just because a republican is the one bringing bad things to light doesn’t mean we can just ignore them.

If we applaud and support Harris blindly, without questioning anything questionable she’s done, we’re just as bad as “evangelicals” who support the least religious, most amoral president this country has ever had (yes, I’m including our slave-raping presidents in that statement).

And any savvy politician knows their mistakes will always follow them. The good ones tend to try not to do bad things; whether it’s for their image or for the right reasons is unfortunately not as important as what they’ve done.

I’m open to investigations and looking into a candiate’s past. Buts its becoming clear that the only past Splinter/Jezebel and now The Root, is intent on digging up is the only person close to Sen. Sanders poll numbers.

I wasn’t even saying she didn’t do it. In the end I admitted she made a mistake as she did. I’m just pointing out that to include a quote from a completely unreliable source, Chris Kelly, doesn’t inspire me to believe that you have the best interest at hand.

I hope she doesn’t win the primary. Her record as a prosecutor is indefensible. In fact any prosecutor from the last three decades record will be indefensible by default. She oughta have gone to work for the innocence project instead. In fact, that might be an idea for her. Stand down from office in 2020, do four years hard work at IP and then come back in 2024 with a new attitude and a record of righting wrongs instead of perpetrating them.

That said, if she does win the primary, then I’ll vote her; reluctantly, just for not being the Orange Monster.

If she had decided to spend a decent amount of time in Congress promoting actual progressivism to atone, I could see it, but she just got there. Kamala asking progressives to take a huge leap of faith with her.

On the other hand, her anti-truancy program, aimed at reducing chronic absence for school-age children, targeted the parents of truant children while threatening prosecution.

Well, yeah. Chronic truancy is a sign of neglect. Last I checked neglect was considered child abuse.

This is regurgitated NY Times talking points with the most unfavorable items cherrypicked from the Washington Post article. The original article has more context and is far more balanced.

To be clear the statement that Harris “acquiesced” by dismissing cases after accusing the judge of bias is CHRONOLOGICALLY WRONG. Her office had ALREADY dismissed 1,550 cases by April 2010 whereas as the judge’s ruling against her office came in May 2010. Her allegation of bias was made in June 2010 which was rejected in August 2010....all things that happened after NOT before she dismissed the cases. The article should be updated to correct the error.

Her past as prosecutor will be the most damning thing about her campaign. You can bet that her opponents will bring it up and call it into question. Some people will see her as another cog in the system.
