    Been a huge Pam Grier fan since Coffy. 

    Also, lots of people passing away lately. Would have been good to let us know Ms. Grier was OK. After seeing the headline, for a second I thought she had left us.

    I teared up when she talked about her mother not being able to afford going to the movies in the 70s and now, at the age of 89, catching up on her daughter’s films. Also, this, how she countered being asked if she became gay from starring in The L Word and being around gay women: “Did you become white when you were around white people?” Sheer brilliance.

    I can’t not stop and drop everything whenever Jackie Brown is on. Pam Grier gives a masterclass in acting, she brings subtlety and wit and tones to the role, this maturity. A woman who’s seen a lot and knows a lot and has been through things, but she’s not done yet. Her friendship with the white PI in smoky afternoon LA dive bars feels real. Life’s not easy but Jackie has verve and strengths. And looks fantastic.  

    Retroactive Oscar for Pam Grier, please. I mean it.

    (She wasn’t nominated, Helen Hunt won for As Good As It Gets, a film we all love and remember, right? UGHH.)
