So CNN is basically saying that they don’t have black executives because black people are screw-ups? Wow. Way to respond to criticism about lack of diversity. Even their best friend Trump knows about tokenism for deflection purposes.

The not so secret reason is that CNN is a Ted Turner network out of Atlanta. Atlanta is one of the blacker cities in America which you think would make finding qualified applicants really easy except for the purposeful intentions of management which NABJ is rightly calling out. Besides desegregation, Ted Turner was born before dialysis, microwaves, credit cards, seatbelts, pacemakers, lasers, and disposable lighters. I don’t really expect him to even have a pulse, let alone a finger on society’s. Even the management of CNN specifically is questionable. Jeff Zucker is from Florida and known for his time at NBC which gave us Donald Trump’s The Apprentice and had Billy Bush on payroll. If it quacks like a duck...

Maybe they could start by getting rid of that Republican Propaganda flack they recently hired, and oh, I don’t know, worry about an actual minority rather than a Trumpite sycophant that wouldn’t know journalism if it hit them smack in the head?

Yeah, my first thought was how does a company headquartered in Atlanta have no black leadership? I lived in Atlanta. There are a LOT of black people there, a significant percentage of whom are highly qualified. Hell, I could give them names.

It’s a rhetorical question. We all know how and why.

“Unfortunately, the significant and reckless damage that Roland Martin did to CNN while partnering with us during a 2016 Democratic Town Hall has made any meeting that includes him untenable.”

“For months, we have been working with NABJ to schedule a meeting because the relationship between CNN and NABJ is very important to us,” CNN said.

I hate that that trashfire response was entirely predictable. This is the same network who recently hired Sarah Isgur Flores in an editorial role over political coverage, who not only dropped the “Flores” and has no documentable journalistic experience, but who also used to work for Jeff Sessions.

And of course, its CEO is Jeff “The Literal Apprentice” Zucker

NABJ said in Tuesday’s statement, “Zucker’s refusal to meet with the full delegation is based on a personal issue between CNN and NABJ’s Vice President-Digital Roland Martin. The issue stems from Martin’s participation in a 2016 town hall meeting...

Roland Martin has clearly been singled out and is not allowed in the CNN building for past transgressions. If this is COMMON practice at CNN, then cool...

Meanwhile, NABJ and the NAACP could theoretically have that soldier sit this one out, while they negotiate for more Black representation on CNN’s management team. Problem solved... Right?

This is a simple problem, with a simple solution.

Are there any people of color in this leadership at all?

If not, maybe they should all join in and have words.

Jeff Zucker got the corporate power to turn NBC and then NBCU and then CNN into disingenuous toxic Republican brofests by greenlighting The Apprentice. He’s a Trump family intimate, and their feud is WWE kabuki.

I’m not sure what the NABJ thought the were going to accomplish if they were too discreet to bring that up.
