I’m glad to see this is happening.  I doubt anything will come of it but glad nonetheless.

The last 2-3 years have taught me to try to be more wary than hopeful, but I REALLY hope they see this through to some sort of actual justice.

And may I say, it’s fucking AMAZING that Michael’s piece on disappearing votes made a cameo in this jerk’s (hopeful!!!) comeuppance.  Kudos to Michael and The Root for always doing it right!

With Plasket, Pressley, AOC, and Talib on that committee, I think things will be happening.

The Senate will conduct its own investigation and distribute the results to all states with republican governors.

How is the person managing the election allowed to run in the election?

Surely they should be required to resign from their job the moment that they announce their candidacy.

When a lot of these rules were written, there were traditions that everyone upheld. Along came Fat Donny Two Scoops in 2016 to point out that tradition can be ignored, that’s why we don’t have his tax returns and health info. Then he got into office and we all learned that not only can traditions be ignored, laws can also be ignored when the people who should enforce them don’t.

I’d bet money I don’t have that when rules were being written, someone worried “But this means a candidate running for office could control the election he’s in!” and the other guys in the room said “Don’t worry, in such a situation a gentlemen would recuse himself as Secretary of State so the election he’s running will be seen as fair.” They didn’t see a need to write “a man running for office cannot also oversee the election in which he’s running” because they never thought anyone would be dishonorable enough to do that.

The only upside is that Kansas’ Kris Kobach ran for Governor while Secretary of State and lost anyway. The election resulted in Kobach getting 43% and (now) Governor Kelly winning with 48%, imagine how the numbers would have looked if the election had been fair.

While Trump and the GOP are happily ignoring tradition, someone should remind the Dems that there is no rule which says that McConnell can block votes in the Senate. Presumably the tradition was based on thinking that all members of a party voting along party lines
