he fiscal conservatives got tired of seeing the nation waste $80 billion a year of taxpayer money on a prison system that hurts many more people than it helps.

The prison system is supposed to help people? Fiscal conservatives might be mad about how much money goes into the prison system but not for those reasons. They just feel like prisons should be charging their slave labor room and board.

The prison system helps white people. That's the point of it.

Fuck Van Jones. I believe he is setting himself up to be the next Candace Owens and trying to make it look like a natural progression. I assume they pay well.

I’ve been getting that vibe from him as well. He’s on that slow transformation and he thinks none of us have noticed, so that we’ll still like him even after he’s become the newest conservative mouthpiece/ panderer.

I already noticed by the way he talks, he put on a professional persona of a sports commentator trying to talk like he is doing an in depth discussion on anything.

He’s is playing to the front seats.

When Van Jones embraces the anti-black perpetrators of discrimination, he is giving them ammunition. Conservatives will use Van Jones’ tweets, support and pro-white tears to continue their assault on people who look like me. I can’t support that. The friend of my enemy is my enemy.

This last paragraph mostly sums up my feelings on Van. He’s assumed the position of “Atlanta Compromise” era Booker T. Washington by trying to convince anti-Black bigots to agree to some prison reform while leaving the racist structure that disproportionately punishes them in place.

Having said that, I don’t consider him to be my enemy any more than Washington was, despite the fact I disagree with both of their positions. I personally like the revolutionary road El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz-era Malcolm, MLK, Angela Davis and Fred Hampton traveled.

Jones may not be fighting for Black people the way I would like, but he’s not selling us out the way many Black Conservatives are. For that, I wish him well, I just won’t be following him.

I don’t have a problem with Jones speaking at Griftacon or reaching out to conservatives. It’s a tragedy that he feels the need to stifle his voice to do so. I don’t think he grasps how harmful his reductionist take on CJR was to Democrats, Progressives, Liberals and most of all African-American activists who have put their livelihoods on the line to infuse the legal system with integrity. Disappointing to read Jones to obscure the critique of the veracity of his words to CPAC with a weak pulsed apology for being misinterpreted by the left. He gave the hard right fodder for the ages. Every time a Progressive or Liberal appears on television to criticize the right that clip of Jones saying, “Here’s the deal, the conservative movement in this country, unfortunately from my point of view, is now the leader of this issue of reform,” will be run. If he continues down this road of appeasement at all costs, he’ll be unable to retain the efficacy of his voice. Perhaps celebrity has colored his understanding of how he is perceived outside of conservative circles. I support his work and hope it continues to bring tangible results, but I can’t follow him down this road,

The conservative cause is not a monolith. There’s a quiet war going on between conservatives who support criminal justice reform and those who hate it.

I knew he’d get there eventually.

Firstly, I don’t want no damn Guinness!!

Secondly, Van Jones is always trying too hard (at what, I really don’t know).

Jones lost all my respect the day he said “He (Trump) became President of the United States in that moment, period”. (For?)

(Immoral white man reads teleprompter, gets a pass on all his evil deeds????) :/

Michael, honestly, I am not seeing much to like here. I appreciate your learned approach and tough questions, but his repeated retort “there are so many things to list (paraphrased)“ is a farce.

In my view, Van is shuckin and jivin’ for the man. Full stop.  He has gone to the sunken place in favor of ratings and the ol’ mighty dollar. He is not a friend to black people, or liberal causes when he throws them under the bus to appease racists, homophobes, and people who, like you said, would slit my son’s throat for wearing a hoodie without much thought. Fuck Van Jones, for real.

What Van Jones is after more than anything else is the white embrace, even if it comes from our enemies. So far Candace Owens is more audacious but eventually Jones will get there. CPAC, at this moment, is catering to the white nationalist instinct. Van Jones seemed comfortable there. Your homework & research won’t slow down the self-serving & harmful political odyssey he’s on. He is waving bye-bye to us; let him go.
