“that absolutely do not reflect the character and civility the people of this state demand of their public servants”

I really with people would stop lying. I don’t say that it represents everyone in the state or the nation but it most certainly does represent enough of them that they can elect people to government at both the state and federal levels that feel no fear displaying a picture like this or palling around with known Nazis. Stop with the nonsense lying! We all have eyes and ears and common fucking sense!

I think this is one of the less acknowledged facets of gerrymandering:

When we allow districts to be drawn to give outsize representation to specific types of voters, it’s not just laws that they support more than the rest of society that get given undue prominence.

This was the part that stood out. One of the saddest transitions of American politics was when politicians stopped trying to be better than the populace and instead pretended they were part of them. I peg it to George Bush Jr, but an argument can be made to Clinton.

This racist action absolutely represents a fair chunk of West Virginia.

I’ll respect politicians a fair bit more when they attempt more honest spin.

I think we all need to stop for a moment and admire this gem at the bottom of the NBC news linked piece:

“Let me (be) very clear with my statement,” Porterfield told NBC News then. “The LGBTQ — not homosexuals — are the modern day version of the Ku Klux Klan.

Similarly, the GOP, not republicans, are a danger to this country and all it stands for.

When I hear news like this, I immediately think these are people that were born, live and will probably die in their state surrounded by same crowd of people, never traveling outside of it and never experiencing different people or thinking.

Every state is unique, travel and expand your world and mindset!

I live in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. It is huge, cosmopolitan, and incredibly diverse. My own little suburb has a huge Muslim population, the Vietnamese community in this area has roots that go back decades, Mexican-Americans such as myself are everywhere (this is Texas, after all), and I’m kind of floored that Dallas didn’t make The Root’s list of blackest cities in America.

And yet, DFW is full of people like this. Just witness the recent controversy over the Muslim chairman of the Tarrant County GOP and the local yokel freakout over Sharia law. Proximity to other races, ethnicities, and cultures is no cure for bigotry. Yes, some people can learn and grow and move beyond their prejudices and become better people. But far too many would be hateful assholes no matter where they live.

I remember thinking in the 90s that the internet would change that. People would be exposed to all sorts of new ideas. Now look at what it has become...

a thing that i want clarified. from what i am reading on other sites. the “violence” was that a democrat got so angry he kicked a door, and it hit a doorman on the other side. That was not directed violence, it was a guy got angry and accidentally hit someone. Am i right in this inference? because thats, not smart, but not violence, negligent accident at best. I nearly did this to a co-worker by accident when i was ticked about having to work through a break..fortunatly i missed, but i would never have intended to do that,i got along with the guy. and its disengenuous that some places(not here) are reporting it as they are.

The number of times I’ve swung open the cooler door in a hurry and nearly pasted someone with it can not be properly quantified.

I’ve nearly gotten hit in the face on the way out the restroom a couple times in the past couple weeks, after years of that never happening. There’s something going on with doors, I tell ya!

Never forget? What, you mean about how the hunt for the 9/11 mastermind veered off course from Afghanistan to Iraq, and the dude wound up chillin’ in Pakistan for at least 6 years before we finally got around to killing him? Oh, I haven’t forgotten.

Nor have I forgotten about having to build PowerPoint memorials for 415 of my fellow US servicemembers who died during my own Iraq tour.

Nor have I forgotten about how gung-ho my fucking country is about eradicating terrorism abroad but shrugs its shoulders about its own homegrown radicalized killers.

Nor will I forget how you so-called “not a racist bone in your body” motherfuckers will pull the lever for Trump again in 20 months.

So I invite you, WVGOP, to “never forget this:”

As a Muslim Somali, Congresswoman Omar should apologize for her people’s role in 9/11.

Similarly, as a Jewish American, Rep. Lieberman should apologize for her people’s role in the destruction of the USS Liberty.

NBC news twitter actually listed her from Michigan, not Minnesota? Do they use kinja?????

Seriously though, how does a major news network make that mistake?

I am so happy Ms. Omar is serving for us in the US. I wish her joy, peace and success.

Rep. Omar (D-MN) represents my district in Minneapolis, MN. I voted for her and continue to be glad that I did, as she is far exceeding my expectations. (High point so far: grilling WAR CRIMINAL Elliot Abrams about the horrors of torture, death squads, assassinations and war in Central American countries in the `980s, that installed military dictatorships—that STILL harm their own people, driving them to flee North). She’s proof that having MORE “representative” people in political office (that is, NOT all white men with wealth) really can make a difference.

Has “the exhibitor” been named anywhere?

    Who is their president?

Are they returning next week as lobbyists?

Are they invited to exhibit next year?

The protection is sketchy as hell.

This bitch’s name is Brenda Arthur. She is a member of the Greater Charleston chapter of ACT! for America which the Southern Poverty Law Center has designated as an anti-Muslim hate group.

The West Virginia GOP was having a “WVGOP” day at the legislature and the state party as well as many county parties were putting up displays of which this hate group’s was one. One can only conclude that the Republican party condones and agrees with the conspiracy theories and bigoted fuckshit that this group spews. I think it is also safe to say that this group’s vision of America is one that is white.
