I watched all 7.5 hours of the hearing. I proceeded to go home and again I watched the full 7.5 hours of the hearing. Of all the cringe worthy moments, this entire episode was the worst. It went from OH MY GOD YES!!!! to OMG NO!!!! faster than The Leafs are going to blow a 3rd period lead in game 7 against the Bruins in a couple of months.

It is impossible to pinpoint the most cringe worthy part of it all. The physical grandstanding by Meadows to the “my relatives are POC” to to the condescending way he withdrew his request to have Tlaib’s comment stricken from record. From Cummings saying, “I don’t want to put words in (Tlaib’s) mouth” only to proceed to say what she meant or didn’t mean by the words that came from her mouth to the fact that Tlaib apologised.

It was just a fucking disgusting display all around.

Same here! I literally jumped out of my chair when I saw Meadows put Patton on display like she was some slave on an auction block. If that doesn’t prove you’re a racist I don’t know what does. The fact that the only people that made mention of it (I believe) were POC woman is also telling. As the hearing went on and no one mentioned it, i was wondering if everyone just saw they same bullshit I did.

You just had to squeeze that jab in there, didn’t you? lol

This is exactly what spoiled children do: they hold their breath, turn red (Did you see that asshole Meadows’ face??), pout, and finally cry, all while demanding that you make them feel better for the problem they caused.

Cummings is basically the parent you see in the mall standing beside a 3-year-old spazzing out. Instead of telling the kid in a stern voice to cut the shit, he instead gave in and bought him a chocolate bar, rewarding the nasty behaviour.

I was thinking about why Cummings would stick up for Meadows, and I was guessing it might have been to keep the peace, but the frazzled parent comparison is a really good one.

Yeah I’ve been talking about that little exchange since yesterday. That whole thing was just fucked up on so many levels. I’ll try to make a list.

    - Meadows’ stunt of bringing out a black woman to imply that Trump can’t be racist IS a racist act in itself. Uts like he doesn’t think that racist employers exist. We created a whole Equal Opportunity Employment Committee because racism on the job is a thing.

    - Meadows trying to make Tlaib’s statement about him was just a bitch move. He knew she never called him that, and then he pulled a page from the racist playbook by calling the actual minority a racist for literally calling out racism.

    - Meadows’ claim that he isn’t racist because one of his siblings has mixed kids is also racist. It has nothing to do with him personally. The only thing we can take from that statement is that he thinks he’s not racist because he was gracious enough to acknowledge the existence of these non-white people in his family.

    - Meadows going on and on about Elijah Cummings being his friend is also another play from the racist playbook. Its literally the “I have a black friend” defense.

    - Cummings let down black America by not really defending Tlaib, and trying to play both sides, and acknowledging that Meadows is his friend while not pointing out any of the jillion examples of white people being friendly with a black person on the surface, then getting exposed for some racist shit when they think no one was watching.

And finally here’s the main reason Mark Meadows can fuck all the way off with his fake righteous outrage, and choke on his bitch-ass crocodile tears: He’s on video saying racist shit.

He did so by trotting out Lynne Patton, his token black person and Trump appointee.

Meadows is a (racist) fucking asshole. That was evident within 5 seconds of him opening his mouth at the start of the hearing. My expectations of him being a good human being are set firmly at zero. But what is going on with ‘ol Lynne? How deep is she in the sunken place to stand there wide-eyed like some token black zombie? I’m not sure what’s going on in the heads of these Paris Dennard/Candace Owen types, but they are definitely on some next level shit.

It’s very easy for Lynn to stand there and take it. Because she is getting paid. Same with Cohen, most if not all of the entire GOP. If we look at their payroll statement, we could probably get a glimpse of why they will eat shit day after day and like it. I am sure that she is getting something decent (at least she seems to think so) payment for her “work”. It doesn’t matter what they do to you as long as you get paid.

Also, it’s comes down to notoriety these are women who’s voices will be drowned out in the liberal platform. Since most liberals / progressives / and dems are in agreement within each other ideals. Some more extreme than others. Yet can speak with a deliverance with working for a goal. The GOP is now a cult, with cult mentalities. This has happened before with parties, we are just seeing it with a rapid pace. These black women who walk among the GOP are left of center so they are more coveted, and will have their 15 minutes of fame. It speaks to their narcissism and constant vying for “respect” within the political system.

Paris Dennard/Candace Owen and Lynn are the kind of women I pity the most.

She is making roughly 160K a year. For a hack who knows nothing about Housing and Urban Development, that is good money. I guess she doesn’t want to screw that up, but personally, I would have to draw the line at being made a fool of on such a national scale. But for her, a person without much backbone, everything, even embarrassment, has a price.

The DNC is pretty much blind and deaf to the overt dog whistles that the GOP regularly use to provoke and destabilize black political participants.

Reagan made the dog whistles common place and Trump simply lowered the bar down.

Hell, look at the kingmaker in the GOP: Rush Limbaugh and previously, Lee Atwater.

I don’t think they’re blind and deaf. I think they know full well, but they know they’re the only game in town for the vast majority of minorities. So knowing the republicans are worse, they choose to ignore it because “hey, at least we’re not that bad.”

Its the sin of commission (republicans) vs the sin of omission (democrats).

Another take I saw was that by doing that Rep Cummings saved Rep Tlaib’s time and comment - the shit she said stayed on the record and she was able to continue. Without curbing the white tears Meadows would’ve chewed up more of Tlaib’s time along with the scenery and, likely, turned the issue into a whether or not the truth she spit out should be struck, removing the points Tlaib was making towards Cohen and what she was getting at. Still not a great look, but Cummings snatching his head would’ve only given Meadows what he wanted - PoCs going HAM while Cohen’s sitting awkwardly and he and his looking at martyrs.

This is the correct take. People who are all up in Rep Cummings’ Kool-Aid who don’t know the rules and have forgotten the relevance both of Congresswoman Tlaib’s (and I wish they’d remember how to spell her name) comments staying on the record AND her committee seat (because they sure would’ve tried to relieve her of it just like they tried with Congresswoman Omar when she questioned Elliott Abrams) have permitted the concept of the play of the long game to slip their minds.  As Prince might’ve said, “We gotta a lotta party to go.”)

Cummings would be wise not to repeat the same mistake of providing them cover.

Or else what? What are you going to do about it? Elijah Cummings has forgotten more about racism than you will ever know.

Seriously, you folks get all up into your feelings anytime one of these freshman House members gets any disagreement. If these women are as strong as you think they are then stop acting like their mommies and daddies and let them handle their business. Tlaib spoke her piece. Cummings spoke his. I’m confident that they can hash this out among themselves without The Root issuing empty threats because that’s what smart, passionate, adult professionals do.

Also, just to be clear, Mark Meadows is garbage but Lynne Patton is a grown ass woman with agency and she *willingly* walked her behind up into that hearing and *chose* to let herself be used as a prop. She didn’t deserve to be defended by Tlaib or anyone else in that room. (I seriously listened to this asking myself “Why are you wasting time defending a woman who works for Trump?”) Jumping on Elijah Cummings while treating that collaborator like a victim is a perfect example of not focusing on the real enemy.

This is an interesting take, but I’d argue almost that Lynne Patton was a prop for everyone at this point; calling out the racism of using a black woman as a prop isn’t defending the black woman in question, it was calling out the idea that you could trot out a person of color in defense of the fact that the administration she works in is not racist. The ‘character’ of the woman in question, being trotted out, is neither here nor there; it’s the act of coming up with bringing out a ‘demo tool’ like one of the stupid poster boards that were displayed behind Meadows, and that the tool in question was a person of color, that was what Tlaib was attacking. She wasn’t making her statement to defend Lynne Patton.

That Lynne Patton was also, coincidentally, caught on audio recordings by Omarosa in reference to Trump saying n(inja), herself said, “No, he said it.  He is embarrassed by it,” is all the more wonderful irony of how fucking stupid Meadows and the GOP have become, like a horrible racist parody.

Except they didn’t trot her out. She trotted herself out. Just like Omarosa and Ben Carson and Kanye.

Too many takes on this ignore Patton’s agency and willingness. Why would Meadows think it was racist when the black woman in question was a willing participant? If he was racist (which he was) then what does that make her? We can’t call out Meadows and ignore the fact that Patton was his partner in this stunt, not his victim.

The New Dem Women are the ONLY folks on Capitol Hill that I feel are truly representing We The People.

Folks like Cummings, and the majority of the Congressional Black Caucus, are a bunch of fence sitters and are content to lie back in the cut and reap the benefits and lobbyist loot. Only raising their heads out of the Cubicles of their Souls for the occasional photo op, tax payer paid meals or to do just what Cummings did, come to the aid of one of their white buddies when they’re upset/getting put in check.

None of them say a mumbling word when Nancy Pelosi is making her passive aggressive comments but the first time AOC didn’t kiss the ring, she was being accused of getting out of pocket. Cummings was content to let “My Best Friend Mr. Daisy Meadows” slide on that Black Woman Prop bullshit he pulled and probably wouldn’t have said anything to counter it until Tlaib verbally chin-checked that bullshit for the filth it was, then he had to, reluctantly bang the gavel and then proceeded to “She didn’t mean no harm, Massa ain’t that right, Rashida? Tell Mr. Daisy youse didn’t call him a racist, tell’em....”

These old status quo Negroes acting up when black folks don’t go along with the bullshit like they do isn’t a new phenomena.

Back when Obama was running for President in ‘07, remember Andrew Young saying that Bill Clinton was just as black as Barack while justifying why he wasn’t supporting Obama or Jesse Jackson wanting to “cut his nuts off”?

The old timers/complacent crowd hate the hell out the New Dems (and they’re all women, too? Whoo!) kicking the front door open instead of being meek, black n’ mild and taking the servants entrance and taking their seat on the sideline. Yeah, they hate’em...but me?

This happens in the workplace too, when it comes to black Millennial workers and black workers from previous generations. They’ve gotten used to the status quo and almost get mad at younger black people for trying to challenge it.

Watching Cummings cover for Meadows was nearly as sickening as the stunt Meadows orchestrated. Tlaib clearly did not call him a racist, but directly said his stunt was in fact racist. Cummings drinking Meadows’ white tears, and regurgitating them to make Tlaib apologize was mentally jarring, and insulting. This is not the time to pull punches. The freshmen class, the people they represent, and those who will be voted in office in the next election will not oput up with the racism of Meadows and his ilk, or the complacency/respectability of Cummings and those of his generation. The Boomers and Silent Generation fear the ascension of the Millennials, because they know they will call them out on their BS, and remake the world in their image while their elders try and cling to their waning power. Math is not on the side of white people fearful of becoming minorities themselves, and time is not on the side of these elder generations who will regret not passing the baton sooner.

Child please. Millennials don’t even show up to midterms and don’t know where to buy a stamp. Millennials fell for Russian propaganda so hard they stopped vaccinating their kids.

Millennials are nearing their 40s. Gen-Z is coming up behind them fast. Gen-Z’s first president was Barack Obama. Millennials are going to need to answer to Gen-Z why they sat home and threw away all of his hard work on climate change. Millennials keep whining about Boomers and Gen X but y’all better look at the Gen-Zers in the rearview mirror because you have some explaining to do.
