    O’Rourke will forego a follow-up bid for the Senate in 2020, leaving open the possibility of a presidential campaign.

    Zero chance, Beto. Don’t waste your money and our time with a presidential bid. You won’t make it out of the minors. If your cheerful, hippy-like waffling doesn’t drum you out, Castro’s machine will pave you flat.

    The smartest and most effective move would be to go for Cornyn’s seat. He’s held it way too long, and it is past time for him to go.

    Of course, his announcement may well be that he’ll be working to support Castro, which would be... pretty goddamned interesting, come to think of it.

      This has been an issue on the left for as long as I can remember. The fixation on the presidency and not understanding the importance of downballot races has been one of our principal weaknesses.

      The over-arching question is whether the Dem nominating process can produce someone relatively moderate that can secure the nomination and have enough remaining credibility to pivot to center and win a national campaign.  What AOC and Sanders and Warren are doing, taking ever more extreme progressive/left positions to “out left” each other is going to make that harder and harder.

      Exactly. For all of the whistle-blowing and hollering on Splinter, the further left the eventual Dem nominee goes, the more likely it becomes that Schultz (or similar) runs to grab the center and split the vote.

      And when no-one tops 270 college votes, President Cheeto gets to have an even more bigly-great inauguration!
