    So much to take away from this but this stood out to me;

    Jennifer Alvarez, who was also on the scene, was relieved of duty on Tuesday She claimed she didn’t see anyone get slapped and that Crespo’s stepfather gave them permission to search the house. Bodycam footage shows the stepdad only giving the cops permission to search a shed on the property.

    She’s the only one that was relieved of her job and the only visible female cop on the surveillance video.

      This stood out to me.

      Lt. Michael Landestoy was also suspended with pay for claiming that nothing was impounded even though there is video footage of Gonzalez taking the battery.

      Can I just tap out now?

      Well, she lied about the search, which angers the district attorney and screws up their case. They don’t care that she didn’t see the slap. Because no one else reported it either, apparently.

    Can someone explain to me the purpose of suspending someone with pay? Why don’t they just put the damn black mark on his record and make him work a bunch of shifts without a day off. Or work traffic.

    But suspension without pay is literally the same thing as taking a damn vacation.

      Because they want to reward them.

    Stories like these really make me rethink my ‘no big brother in my house’ method.

    Not enough to install security cameras in my living room, but still... I see the value.

      Local network only. No wi-fi; no alexa, no nest. That should be reasonably secure.

      Big brother is already in your pocket with that smart phone anyway!

    surveillance video shows Officer Alex Gonzalez exiting out of the house with a rectangular object that he reportedly believed was the video system.

    But it was just the battery.

    I’ve come to the conclusion your narrative of the situation is completely wrong. If you look at the video closely, you’ll see the supposed assaulter approach the cuffed suspect, obviously checking on his well being, when the suspect lunges his head at the detective. The detective raised his hand to defend himself and the suspect ended up hitting it with his hand.

    No, that’s not it. The cop was right, the suspect was going to spit on him. Now, as we all know, if it looks like someone is going to spit on you, your first instinct is to hit the person really hard in the region of the eye. Because, you know, black people spit from their eyes or something.

    BTW, they keep calling it a slap. Technically it’s not a punch (as it was an open hand). But that wasn’t a simple slap (as when I hear the word slap, I picture a young ingenue responding to an impolite young suitor asking if she’d like to go down by the lake and make-out).

    That slap had real force behind it.
