Yes, but not everyone who wants to secure a job is able to. Should those people... eat cake?
They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.
What is there about a guaranteed minimum that removes that potential?
People want to work for what they get.
Ivapid has it exactly backwards. People want to get paid for their work - something her dud dad doesn’t understand, either. (Witness unpaid contractors, etc.)

  Exactly! It’s better for society if even people who are not able to secure a job for one of a whole host of possible reasons can still live in a reasonable* manner. Most people want to work** and will do so if they are able to even if they don’t have to...although if they don’t have to, then you have to make the jobs worth having...
  *reasonable not be defined here. that’s a different argument.

I support a minimum wage. I do not however believe in a minimum guarantee for people “unwilling to work” which was the question asked of me.

  “Hard work=getting rich” is a gigantic lie. We all just got a rich guy on our backs dangling a carrot. We give them a free ride in exchange for “promises” that are in their best interests not to keep. Meanwhile they broke every rule/cut every line to get where they are while telling us to follow the rules.
  I also think it’s funny when the people who shut down the government and defend and glorify confederate statutes speak about the dignity of earning what you work for. They don’t want people to get paid for doing nothing, but they’re fine with people working and not getting paid.
  They present themselves as though they're setting an example of how to be successful, when they're actually reinforcing the system that funnels all money upwards towards them.

The first Trump came to the U.S dodging his country’s draft iirc. He freely entered without stigmatism over his country of origin. The family’s fortune was made with prostitution and drug running (prohibition was on, alcohol was an illegal drug), and further increased with deals with mafioso, racism, and having friends at the top levels of govt during a time when a city calling itself the best in the world was working hard to look the part.
She has never held a job not given to her by her father. She has never had to compete, she has never had to struggle. As such she has never had to question if some hiring manager will see the determination and work ethic which got her past all the obstacles just to earn that interview.
Like many parents of color, I’ve already had to tell my kids about the dumb ass rich kids sitting by a pool *right now* who are gonna take the job my kids earned just because these kids parents have money and influence.
Like black parents have done for generations, I have to tell my kids that they have to work twice as hard, to be ten times better, and to make the most of every single opportunity just to have a chance.
IT FUCKING ANGERS ME.
No kid should have deal with that kind of pressure and stress, but this bitter medicine is preferable to the disease it treats. Kids of color aren’t going to get the benefit of the doubt, they aren’t going to be gifted a million chances.
For this long necked, plastic chinned, porcelain veneered, silicone stuffed, feckless, craven, fourth generation grifter to feign support for the working class; speaking words she doesn’t understand...
Still, I have to wonder how many of her father’s flock will believe the bs she’s saying.

  It’s decades upon decades of doing that shit up to a point where we have regulations and safeties in place that means you can both protest like hell, and keep your job and keep your life running.
  
  This hurts to say because I’m a republican (in France, so somewhat of a socialist by american standards :D ) but y’all need to vote way far left, regulate your goddamn businesses, pass laws that favor living breathing people instead of companies that only profit the very few that own them, and y’all need to unionize, in every branch of the economy. Also, livable minimum wage for less than 45h/w greatly helps. Kinda hard to go protest every weekend when you work 3 jobs to stay alive.
  
  Taxes will hurt, but you get used to it. Especially when it means living without fear a broken arm will bankrupt you, or that you started life with 100k$ debt just for an education...
  
  Your entire system is built around keeping y’all at work all the time, docile and scared that if you say anything, you’ll lose everything.

Anyone who is for the green new deal has no idea what it’s about. I’ve heard about it. If they pass this, no one can fly anymore! Cows would be required to be modified to add a catalytic-type converter to convert their farts to clean air. We will have death panels to decide who lives or dies based on their carbon footprint! We will all be under sharia law! Every married couple will be required to bring their first-born to washington to be sacrificed at the alter of AOC!
