Just a reminder that, yes, Maryland is the South, being south of the Mason-Dixon Line. And no, I'm not one whit surprised that someone from Harford County would employ racial slurs, especially when talking about PG.

Yup. I had to correct someone on the WaPo who incorrectly stated Maryland was a free state. Frederick Douglass would say otherwise.

Just to be clear, Maryland’s motto (or one of them) is “the free state”. But that does NOT relate to it being free of slavery. No, it’s about something far more important.

It had to do with being opposed to prohibition and the government/people were generally unhelpful to the feds (it was like a sanctuary state!). So, it’s all about being free to drink booze (somewhat).

WTF. I never even heard my racist Alabaman grandmother say the n-word. It’s a pretty low bar... If you somehow drop racial slurs while drunk maybe you should never drink. Nobody says it on “accident” who hasn’t said it on purpose a few times.

I’ve heard my uncle from Staten Island use that word. I’m not sure about my grandparents (I know she seemed to say Schwarze, as well as talk about the Puerto Ricans). The first time I remember hearing that was up in NH (where there were few black people in my school, like 4 out of 1200).

      Racism knows no direction!

I've managed to train my 90 year old grandfather out of using the word in front of me. So even old racists can learn context.

One of the few times I’ve been called a nigger was in Harford County.

Her district covers from Havre de Grace to Joppa (aka Harford County lol) and mostly below 40. The audacity of caucasity. A fair amount of her constituents are black and probably voted for her dumb ass.

I should add that was at Harford Christian (surprise surprise). Maybe those kids in their perfectly Jesus-y school uniforms didn’t take their lord’s name vain but they had no problem denigrating us.

The 80s really had me thinking adulthood was hanging around in satin pajamas listening to the quiet storm with your man/woman.  What a cruel joke reality was.

I see some of y’all bringing up your knowledge of US geography by stating that Maryland is a southern state, as if that somehow makes one of their lawmakers bigotry becoming public knowledge more understandable.

Well, just for the record, let me say that they say N*gger up north, too.

Why do they always make it worse?  It’s like they are constitutionally incapable of offering an apology without a qualification attached to it.

Racists are not the brightest bulbs in general, otherwise one of the first things their brainpower would go to is the discovery that racism is pretty dumb as far as logical concepts go.

I use the n-word all the time. And in a totally pejorative way.

    “Neoliberal” you mean, right?

My n-word is “narcissist”. I still mostly say it in full.

“I am sickened that a word that is not in my vocabulary came out of my mouth,” Lisanti said in a statement a few weeks ago. “It does not represent my belief system, my life’s work or what is my heart.”

Oh god, that excuse again? Like haven’t we heard that one before?

I am sickened that a word that is not in my vocabulary came out of my mouth,

      I’m sure I have . . . I’m sure everyone has used it.

So it’s not in her vocabulary but she’s sure she’s used it?

Its only surprising to me how many Black folks find her and those like her surprising. She thought “everyone uses it” because everyone she grew up around was racist and white. Many Black folks seem shocked when they learn that whites still grow up around racism. To this day, I have never met a single white person who did not have, at the very least, one racist family member or “distant” relative that’s a raging bigot. I even considered it “lucky” when they only had one and the rest of the family shunned them.

I’ve yet to meet a black person born in the U.S. who is “shocked” at white racism.
