Honestly, he’s making Governor “Coonman” Blackface look like a reasonable person. I’m utterly disgusted.

He’s disgusting. Using the horrible lynchings to bolster his own lies is a classic pathetic defense. He needs to go now.

If he didn’t like the criticisms of him sounding like he was comparing what he’s going through to lynchings, maybe he shouldn’t have mentioned lynchings in his comparions?

    What a crazy concept, eh?

Richmond is Central to Southern Virginia, not Northern Virginia.

And, considering Richmond used to be the capital of the confederacy, I’m guessing no, they don’t have any PR firms.

      Sincerely,

      A Virginian

Richmond as a state capital with Phillip Morris’s HQ nearby and being not that far from either Virginia Tech or University of Virginia (where scandals have happened) there should be PR firms at the ready to perform damage control for statewide politicians, schools and universities, and other major businesses in the Central area. Henrico County alone should have some folks willing to be on retainer if the better firms north of Fredericksburg are too busy to handle their shit.

      Sincerely,

      A Virginian.

Don’t know why he’d go there - why go Clarence Thomas - given that the blatant hypocrisy of the republicans was working in his favor, not to mention Donald Trump’s history. This makes him even less credible. And can someone remind of how many people were lynched for abusing & raping black women? Please, how vulgar!!

And can we stop invoking the horrible legacy of lynching for political crap - it trivializes our ancestors suffering. I resented it when Clarence Thomas did it, and I resent it now when some black democratic party operatives invoke lynching to bully us into voting. Please stop it!

If real people weren’t being hurt by it, then our society’s inability to rationally and coherently deal with sexual assault allegations would be funny.

Victims, fearing social stigma and reprisal, wait for years to come forward sometimes until seeing their perpetrator as a public figure. While I’d like to live in a world without sexual assaults someday, in the interim I’d be very pleased to live in a world where allegations emerge more quickly, which both keeps the evidence fresh and minimizes the chance of complications such as the perpetrator ultimately becoming a more powerful public figure than they were at the time of the assault with a bunch of accrued power and influence they can use to shelter themselves from justice.

The segment of society that is concerned with justice for the victims, fearing that giving time for a meaningful investigation will contribute to a miscarriage of justice, demand immediate resignation and ostracization of alleged perpetrators, and view any calls for cooler heads and a more robust investigation as disingenuous efforts to thwart mob social justice.

It’s unlikely, but not impossible, that Fairfax is right. We have to find a way to make victims feel safe and okay with coming forward, without caving into the feelings this immediately engenders that demand justice sans any sort of due process. And before some dipshit comes up in here saying that criminal and social due process aren’t the same thing, I understand that. But the fact that there’s no law against shaming someone into exile without any sort of due process doesn’t mean we shouldn’t collectively require some burden of proof that’s more substantial than a “credible” allegation while not being as onerous as “beyond a reasonable doubt”, either.

He went from saying he welcomes an investigation to comparing his situation to lynchings. I’m starting to think Justin doth protest a bit too much. What’s next? Is he gonna say this is all a setup to stop him because he was planning to buy NBC?

Seems like that’s a favorite refrain of politicians, of any color, when accused of [something, that which is usually some sort of sexual assault], they bust out the ‘lynching’ metaphor.

The only reason DJT hasn’t said something about the Mueller ‘lynch mob’, is because his simple mind has already become affixed to ‘witch hunt’. (which, hey, if you change up ‘witch’ with ‘criminal’, is apt. Yes, it’s a ‘criminal hunt’. Honestly, he probably doesn’t know enough history to actually understand what the old school ‘witch hunts’ were all about, but you know, it makes a good sound bite for his fans)

It’s terrible optics, no matter how you look at it.

If he’s innocent, it makes him look bad, it demeans the very real experiences of those who were lynched, and it throws women in general under the bus.

If he’s guilty, well, enough said.
