How long will it take before Trump tells the world that G.W. was half the man man that he is, and that is So Sad.

When President Barack Obama arrived in Houston about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon (2014), former President George H.W. Bush was there to greet him (in a wheelchair).

“When the president comes to your hometown, you show up to meet him,” said Bush.

*I will always remember this meeting of Presidents, and his statement.*

Not to minimize Bush’s part but that ad had Lee Atwater all over it. That guy would have had someone throw a kitten in front of an opponent’s campaign bus just to get the video for a commercial.

Not going to minimize Atwater’s part but Bush had to know that was coming and did nothing to distance himself from it. Hopefully Atwater and Nixon are rotting in hell somewhere.

Funny.... We can talk about the Willie Horton ads, Iran-Contra, Nixon’s CIA,”can’t be real american if you don’t believe in God,” etc.... but the bar is so low now for what is acceptable in a POTUS, that I think I would rather have GHW Bush’s stuffed corpse sitting in the oval office that the current lying sack of shit.

Fucking sad on so many levels.

Uh legacies are complicated so I guess I shouldn’t mention the Willie Horton ad, the fact that Roger AIles worked for him, he voted against the Civil Rights act, his nickname while in congress was “rubbers” and he pretty much helped hand the presidency to his inept drunk of a son. I saw this with Nixon while in college and quite frankly have grown tired of glossing over a man’s faults to make his kin folk sleep better. Seeing over twenty years of Fox News demonize the Clinton’s and Obama’s while living has done that to me. I can only imagine what that network will do and say when all four of them pass away, if the planet is still here.

I’ll wait here while you go find a president - or a man for that matter - without faults.

Agree with everything except the elder Bush putting Dubya in the White House. He and his wife both didn’t want that to happen because that son had been a fuckup all his life and Jeb is the one they felt was qualified to possibly be President one day.

Bless them. It would be rough to lose two family members in one year. I wish them the strength to deal with this loss.

I vaguely remember hearing some commentator on CNN say they’d be surprised to see Bush Sr. last long without Barbara. It’s also common for couples at that age to pass pretty closely.

Yeah, that does seem to happen a lot. When I lost my father it felt like a kick in the gut so I can’t imagine dealing with that twice in a short amount of time. Sounds like they’re a really close family though so that does help.

Compared to the last two republican presidents, Bush was the most competent of the three. He actually knew something about foreign relations and building coalitions, and the us’s place in the world. He was being lauded last night for not gloating when the Berlin Wall fell, knowing that wasn’t the end, but the beginning, of a tumultuous time that could easily had led to war as people tried to grab control (imagine trump during such an event). And he did a lot of good after he left (the only good trump can do is just to leave).

Was he perfect? No? But no president (unless you wear a maga hat). Clinton had issues with women, killing people, signing crap legislation like crime bills and defense of marriage acts. Bush 43 was an idiot who started a war for no reason that is still costing this country. Obama divided the nation by being so racist (as in he was black and said things white didn’t agree with), and Fox News will happily tell you everything he did that was bad. And, well, itd be easier to list the good things trump has done while in office.

All I’m saying is, sure he was evil, but all  politicians, esp. presidents, are evil in some ways. But he had more good than evil in him.
