Charles Schultz didn’t have control over the animation but he made sure that Franklin was a part of the comic strip. Schultz was petty, everything folks didn’t want Franklin to do he did the opposite:

attend the same school - check

    have a sleepover - check

play on the same sports team - check

I applaud Mr Schultz for being petty and letting Franklin be great in the comic strip.

see that’s what I think folks miss. My mom (a baby boomer) said he was the first black kid to be in a comic.

      This is a good read:

Franklin: Nah, I gotta go pick up something. I just got a text from Dora.

See that’s just bordering on creepy. Franklin first appeared in 1968, so that makes him around 60 now. Dora first aired in 2000, so she’s still in her 20s. When did they start meeting up? Franklin might need to be on a watch list.

Franklin needs to get him an age-appropriate WOC and keep it moving

So Franklin needs an age appropriate dealer?

Oh, but Charlie Brown, I can see that. Down on his luck white man, nothing goes his way, it seems. That’s the picture of your standard white supremacist, actually. Lucy reminds me of a woman on a recent picture of white supremacists marching somewhere. It’s all becoming so clear...

Lucy doesn’t see race. She just calls the cops on black people minding their own business because she got a ‘bad feeling’ about them.

I thought Peppermint Patty and Marcy were in a relationship.

In sad cartoon news, Stephen Hillenburg, creator of Spongebob Squarepants has apparently died at 57 of ALS. :(

I’m guessing Patty “swings both ways” as they used to say back in the ‘70s. Maybe she’s poly, too! We know she’s a dom, because Marcy always calls her Sir. Most doms are nonmonogamous, so...

The Daily Show did a bit on Franklin a while ago. They pointed out that he was far more part of the group in the comics than he was on the magical moving picture machine.  There he was sitting on the other side of the table, break dancing, giving five instead of shaking hands. All the racial stereotype stuff they could come up with, Franklin was doing it. I believe if they made a new show these days, he’d be wearing a doo-rag and wearing his pants low showing off his shorts.

On the subject of the comics, Kotaku had an interesting article on the introduction of Franklin awhile back.

MH: Wait—you have a child grandchild?

Franklin: Two: Huey and Riley Freeman. They mostly stay with my granddad because they couldn’t get citizenship in Wakanda.

From about two lines in, I couldn’t stop hearing him in John Witherspoon’s voice. This made an amusing interview even better.

Of course, they didn’t want me sitting next to Lucy, either. Back in those days, a black man couldn’t sit next to a white girl on national TV. And Lucy had a thing for me.

It is difficult to tell if the initial tweets were jokes

Yeah, so I don’t think it was a joke. It looks like a clueless brotha making stupid comments on twitter, which isn’t surprising since most comments on twitter are stupid and inane.

Elmer Fudd was running a cartoon trafficking ring out of a Chuck E. Cheese. At least that’s what I heard.

Franklin: Really? No, that wasn’t it at all! I chose to sit on that side of the table because that was my good side. They originally wanted me to sit beside Pig-Pen, but that boy be stank. First I thought it was because white people don’t use washcloths, but nah ... he just didn’t shower.

We almost got to fighting on the set that day because I asked him if he had some chitlins in his pocket ... Ole souse meat smelling motherfucker!

Whaaaaat Franklin’s chair is unique and nicer. A throne. At that table Franklin is king, with his left and right hands, across from his vassals, who are supping with animals.
