    They ABSOLUTELY should take care of the writers they owe money to. They generated content or the appearance of solvency on that content, and it’s additionally insulting that a Black Publication (I understand from your piece this was after the change in leadership) cheats it’s Black writers.

    I’m not sure on the Mari Copeny issue, did they make it seem as if she was invited, then decline? Was she sitting there with a ticket she purchased, and was there some sort (other than being Ebony Mag) of thought that there was synergy between this event and the People’s Choice stuff?

    I didn’t bother with that Ebony Challenge ish because I didn’t care for people trying to clown me about how old I am but I thought these cheapskates had already paid the writers and weren’t actually waiting until the last minute to do so...

    but, I should have known better.

    We should have a discussion about how way more black owned/black public serving businesses treat black folks like trash because they know the general public thinks we’re trash so they know there won’t be much sympathy thrown our way.

    It ain’t just stank ass Ebony that’s doing Black America wrong.

      I’m part of a facebook group (The new Black Wall Street, I think) whose founder negs Black people all the time in hopes of them being able to see his vision for independent economic viability.

      Most of his videos and posts start of with him saying “Black folks don’t/can’t/ain’t/won’t....” It’s aggravating af especially when a few of his campaigns have been successful.

    Mari Copeny, aka Little Miss Flint, is #BlackGirlMagic personified, and this 11-year old activist ain’t for play play. She’s advocated for clean water for Flint, Michigan, raised over $350K for the Pack Your Back non-profit, and won the Ebony People’s Choice Award as a ‘change agent’ after garnering over 24K online votes. Yet, according to her Twitter account, she was told by Ebony that she couldn’t attend because this made up event ‘wasn’t open to the public.’

    Shaming clearly doesn’t work, so, you gotta hit ‘em in the nuts (pockets). Aggrieved writers need band together, get a lawyer and petition a judge for an emergency order to turn off the tap (cancel the stupid gala, block next publication, freeze accounts if possible, etc) until they’ve been paid. That would send a message with guaranteed response.
