Why are mental health issues only valid when white people use them to commit crimes?

I’m tired of questions like that being provocative too.

Charleena Lyles had mental health issues, called the police to help her with a break in, and they shot HER.

This embodiment of every “well actually...” intentionally engaged in domestic terrorist behavior resulting in the death of a young woman and he’s hoping to get off because he has issues. Not to mention that it looks like his defense team just Googled the most common disorders as opposed to actually being diagnosed. If he really is that unstable, he should have been committed to a psychiatric facility right after the murder happened.
We have witnesses, we have intent, we have motive, and we have evidence. Let’s just call “due process” what it is in cases like this - a stall tactic.

  It’s like when white dudes who say borderline criminal things claim they did so because they’re autistic. Don’t further stigmatize the people who suffer with these issues and lead “normal” lives.
  
  Disorders definitely impact people’s perceptions and actions but you know what else does? Being a white supremacist that not only believes the violent rhetoric but also participates in demonstrations of it.
  
  If his mental health made him a danger, he should have been in a psychiatric institution right after it happened, and eventually deemed unfit for trial. The combination of ADHD, bipolar, anxiety, and depression could lead someone to murder but there’s another explanation for his irrational anger and it has everything to do with who he is and who is victim was too.

  Immediately after Heyer was killed, the story became “protesters were hitting his card and he panicked and hit the accelerator,” which contradicts all the video clearly showing him backing up, driving into the crowd, then backing up again and fleeing.
  See also: the commenter in the grays who lives in a world where the video shows he was attacked. I’m not sure in which reality the trial will be held.

For Ms. Heyer’s family, perhaps. But in reality, this man’s actions were a singular instance of a much bigger, dangerous, and more organized initiative ongoing in this country. It’s going to take much more than the conviction of one man to address this growing cancer.

  I read that article over the weekend, right after seeing another one about how members of the Atomwaffen Division are joining the military to get training and gain access to military grade weaponry. I spent the rest of the weekend dealing with the sober realization that we are well and truly fucked in this country. There are scores of people living in the shadows who are armed to the teeth, trained to kill, and committed to killing black, brown, and Jewish people.

When you consider the PSA “If You See Something, Say Something” has never stopped white serial killers (Dahmer, Gacy), white child molesters (every female writer’s father), white priests (every Catholic), white Boy Scout leaders, white coaches (Penn State dude), white doctors (Larry Nasser). I mean, they operate for decades or until they die of old age enjoying free, unlimited and unquestioned access to women, children, and the vulnerable in every space. Their kids can build bombs in the garage and have weapons and Nazi memorabilia delivered to the house! The same kids use every drug known to mankind, steal grandma’s drugs and even repurpose household products, all while living at home. They sit in coffee shops where managers notice them but don’t call the police, in offices where people never run to HR or the boss, they’re in <1500 sq ft homes and do the children’s laundry & sheets but never smell, hear or see anything! These things are white on white crime that they should be mad as hell about!
It almost makes their reflexive suspicion of any innocuous thing Black people do seem like a distraction from the evil they KNOW they’re doing themselves or allowing to be done!

He’ll get a few years in some psych-ward because the judge or jury or both will feel sorry for him, likely get early release of some sort because he’s ‘improved so much and feels sorry for the woman he killed’, be greeted with fanfare by his fellow nazis and be a hero among them and likely, spurned on by such things will injure and kill people again, possibly in larger numbers this time and all of the think pieces and morning shows will act aghast and wonder ‘How could he do such a thing!?’
