Maybe Dana Loesch can explain what the woman did wrong to get herself shot. And then she can explain what the cop did wrong, too. She’s got answers for everything!

Her name sounds vaguely familiar. So many shitty media personalities to keep track of. Did she blame a shooting victim recently or something?

I think you are right. It will kill us all. Though I like to think of it as “male fragility” rather than toxic masculinity.

I just got finished reading this piece in the NY Times: In Bosnia, Entrenched Ethnic Divisions Are a Warning to the World.Though the piece was largely a warning about the rise of nationalism in “the west,” one of the lines that stuck with me was this:

While friction between communities is rare in daily life, Amna Popovac, an activist in Mostar for Nasa Stranka, a multiethnic party struggling to break down barriers, said nationalist political leaders, all of them men, constantly stoke fear of conflict to rally support and avoid tackling real problems. “Testosterone plays a big role in our politics,” she said.

Later Popovac is quoted as saying:

Differences between Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs are so small — they speak the same language, look the same and mostly eat the same food — that some scholars of the 1990s war have turned to Freud and what he called “the narcissism of minor differences” to explain the fury of their rival nationalisms.

The only clear marker is religion, though Catholic Croats, Muslim Bosniaks and Orthodox Serbs are still united by the fact that few worship regularly and nearly all like going to bars and cafes.

Bosnia’s biggest curse, said Ms. Popovac, the activist in Mostar, is not ethnic or religious enmity but its nationalist political leaders, who fan the fears of the communities they claim to represent to save themselves and a deeply corrupt system that has enriched them.

“Just follow the money,” she said.

Popovac’s analysis in the Times article reminded me of a long-form piece by Anne Applebaum (who I think we are supposed to hate because she is a “conservative”) in which she basically makes the claim that these tensions are rising because of men who couldn’t cut it in society and who believe in little but their own right to be at the top exploit nationalist tensions in a bid to get what they want, namely their own ascendence. While I don’t agree with every bit of her framework, it is a thoughtful piece.

In the end, all of this is to say that I think your analysis is spot on. This is largely a problem created by male fragility. One very intimate aspect of which is the fragility of men who “can’t seem to control the women in their lives as they believe they have a right to.” In this instance its violence is directed at a woman (and any other person who gets in his way) but is also a problem for us all.

Hey Monique, you forgot to mention the part where this was a domestic violence shooting. The gunman killed his ex-fiancee.

I was wondering if that was the case here. Considering how many people that have been getting shot and murdered due to mass shootings recently, I was wondering if there was a reason why the number of victims was so low. Another bastard murders his ex because of domestic violence.

Why are we calling this woman the girlfriend of the asshole that murdered her and not by her name or by her title, as a respected doctor? She was more than this shithead’s girlfriend.

While I agree, her being involved in a relationship with the killer is a rather important part of the story.

Here we go again: another day, another shooting.

The gun death cult in the United States claims several more victims.

The blood is on the hands of the late hypocrite Scalia and his living fellow Supreme Court conservatives who voted in favor of the dreadful Heller decision. Yes, I’m looking at all of you.

Yup. But....if he hadn’t had a gun, he probably would have stabbed her (like Lance Mason did to his ex) or strangled her with his bare hands (like Chris Watts did to his wife).

We need gun control.  We also need men to view women as people and not possessions.

If only the woman was armed, she could have stopped him.

If only the police officers were armed, they could have stopped him.

If only everyone in the hospital was armed, they could have stopped him.

If only we had a solution to deal with the mental issues of people to stop them from using guns to kill people.

But, you know, what can you do? There’s just no answers...

Another day ending in “Y” in America. And, of course, it has a violence-against-women nexus.

Four people are dead, including a police officer, after a gunman killed his ex-fiancee and two others at Mercy Hospital in Chicago on Monday.

The 32-year-old gunman and his ex-fiancee Dr Tamara O’Neal are among the dead.

Chicago police officer Samuel Jimenez, 28, was also killed in the shooting. Jimenez, a father-of-three, had only just completed his probationary period.

The second woman who was shot by the gunman was a pharmaceutical technician at Mercy Hospital. Her name has not been released...

O’Neal and the gunman had reportedly planned to wed on October 27, but she called off the wedding in September.

    Damn

This happened in Chicago, which is catnip for 2nd Amendment fanatics and their ‘justifications’. They’ll dismiss any arguments for gun control with the argument that Chicago has strict gun laws and “thugs” don’t follow them.

And the deaths of 4 more people become political talking points, until the next tragedy happens.

    God damn it.

This particular thug met their definition of a “good guy with a gun*” right up until the second he didn’t. Concealed-carry license and all.
