I live in the grey area between metro and country in WA, so I see my fair share of people griping on social media about this. The common argument goes something like, “If someone’s breaking in to my house to murder my family I need to have guns out in the open, in every corner of the house.”

Which begs a couple questions: 1) Why the fuck do you choose to live in a place where you have a legitimate fear every night that someone is going to break in to your house and murder your family?, and 2) What kind of person are you that someone would target you, and your family, with such a crime?

Also, if they’re in every corner and loaded, I tend to ask “what if the burglar gets to one before you do, lard-ass?”

Those folks are watching Prince of Tides too often and/or too many old Steven Seagal movies.

Gun guys will fight the dumbest shit. How is ensuring a 20 year can’t buy and ar-15 any more difficult that ensuring a 20 year can’t buy a PBR tallboy? The gun one on it’s face is easier because a PBR tallboy doesn’t cost $900 and I’m guessing there’s more places to buy liquor than guns in this town. How difficult is it to put trigger lock on your gun and keep it someplace safe?

If there was some way to collect off you, I’d take that bet!

Their lobbying power is way too strong, for one. Older gun collectors tend to have deep pockets (it is not a cheap hobby, emphasis on HOBBY) and lobbyists have done a spectacular job of muddying up the language.

Democrats need to write a clear-language proposal that would make those who oppose look bad, or at least like hypocrites.

“So now you have to check your safe every five days to make sure it’s not been broken into, and make the inventory of guns is still correct? It’s ridiculous.”

You can’t expect us responsible gun owners to be held responsible for the guns we own. That’s ridiculous.

797 likes on a post about the future of a town consisting of 1,100 people is pretty significant.

How do we know that the likes came directly from the town itself and not randos who have social media from locations outside of town? Also, now that he has verbalized that he will be derelict in his duties, can he be removed from office? I mean, if the job description includes upholding the law and you are willfully choosing not to do so, doesn’t that mean that you should lose your job? Lastly, (and not that I wish this on any community nor do I think that disobeying this particular law will lead to extremism but...) if a kid decides to purchase one of these guns, is allowed to after Jan. 1 and goes on a shooting spree will the gun shop owner and this law-breaking shit-eating backwoods sheep fucker be indicted as well for dereliction of duties? Just wondering. (I might have gone too far with the “backwoods.” My apologies.)

Reply to JMANSWAT: I dont need to read about the Revolutionary War to understand tyranny - although I have done so extensively. I have a deep understanding of tyranny from reading about the historical treatment of Black people in the U.S. Because of this, I understand that white people in law enforcement believe they can apply the law and Constitutional rights as they see fit whenever they choose - at every level of government. Additionally, the Constitution speaks specifically to gun ownership (muskets) to support and form militias. The Constitution is a document created by wealthy enslavers of human beings who wanted to create a country they could rule in perpetuity with ambiguous wording that only idiots will believe they will follow to the letter. In the future, please don’t talk to Black people about tyranny. We live it daily in some form. To you it’s a slogan on a t-shirt that justifies buying weapons no sensible human being should possess.

Last time I checked, Marbury v. Madison was still good law and it was the judiciary, NOT THE EXECUTIVE, that determined the constitutionality of laws.

In other words, Sheriff Culp needs to stay in his fucking lane.

I’m sure this dude is ALLLLLLL about everybody being free to arm themselves to the teeth, until the moment he spots a black person with anything in their hand, and then shoots them because it could have been a gun.

If someone then breaks this law and, say, kills someone, would that make him Police Chief Culpable?

“I had people asking if the Police Department was going to start arresting teenagers, 18-, 19-, 20-year-olds, carrying and using a semi-automatic .22 rifle. I told them, ‘I’m not going to infringe on someone’s constitutional rights.’”

Somebody should point out to him that the Constitution doesn’t specify an age for legal gun ownership.

Law enforcement doing what they want instead of enforcing the law?

It’s like they’re building a case for why they’re useless.
