With relatively little screen time, Ms. Davis portrayed the most interesting character in Suicide Squad, a movie that was largely a mess.

She is one of the few actors that I will watch in something just because she is in it.

Yeah, other than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quin - she really did play the hell out of that character - Viola’s character was the only other one I really cared anything about.

I’d been impressed with Viola in several small roles but in the movie Doubt, Viola bested Meryl-freakin’-Streep! Neither Meryl’s character, the audience nor I agreed with Viola’s character’s position but in just a few minutes’ interaction, you understood where she was coming from! She quietly decoded Meryl’s condescending, mean-spirited, ambiguous, manipulative motivations and showed her 1) that she had done some complex, nuanced calculations of her own and was choosing the lesser of two evils and 2) that she was nobody’s pawn but a move maker herself. Just masterful! Same thing in that Antoine Fisher movie: in a few moments onscreen, she made you understand and even empathize with a bad birth mother! In Fences, against Freakin’ beloved Uncle Denzel (!), she reached back through TIME for all our Black female ancestors and corraled the hurt of every contemporary sistuh in blasting her man that she had broken dreams too AND STILL DIDN’T CHEAT!

I could go on and on but everything about Viola Davis is absolutely excellent!

For real——Davis is a great actress, and it’s about time she got the lead in a film—she has mad presence and can dominate a scene without chewing it up. I’m going to see Widows just because she’s in it, basically. She pretty much kills it in just about everything she’s in,period. Plus, she’s really beautiful too, no matter how many times the business told her she wasn’t simply because she’s not white, blond or a skeletal size two.

Just yesterday, a friend of mine quoted extensively from this interview to me. He, a gay white man, was floored by it, and views it as inspirational to him, and wants it to be the same for me (a straight white man).

    She has great wisdom.

    I Love Viola!

Humbleness & humility are some of the most beautiful features on a person. I love talented people who don’t take their talents & blessings for granted. They’re thankful for every moment even when they know they deserve better. I love witnessing a blessing come true for people like this.

I am already a huge fan Viola Davis. And of course she is right. No one protects, cherishes, truly loves and sees black women. Or our own unique brand of beauty especially after you hit a certain age. And at times we are treated even worse than black men by society and black man.

Man, the Trumpers are taking the blue wave like a funeral. So impotently mad. You believed the hype; you thought you were a majority, bless your hearts.

You’re not. Deal with it, and stay in the greys. When you decided to stop showing your asses in public, maybe we’ll address you directly. Y’all’s boy is about to have his entire ass handed to him; YOU did that, trust and believe.

Until then, go kick every rock in the Grand Canyon and keep y’all’s no-good, trifling asses out of our mentions, okay?
