You’re completely over-reacting and imagining things. Clearly he was letting his family know he’s okay. It has nothing whatsoever to do with white power.

Someone tell me because I’m honestly asking, when did this symbol become associated with White Power? Because when I was a kid, this was associated with a game that if you looked at it you would get punched. So when did shit change?

I hate that bigots do jobs that (should) involve helping people, because it will inevitably mean they’ll purposely fail those they hate.

I remember there was an article on the show called “Find Our Missing” (a show that focused on finding missing black persons, since very little attention is given to our cases) and a white person commented that the show was racist. Because they obviously DGAF about statistics.

Bigots in positions where they should help everyone equally, whether it’s someone calling 911, hurricane victims, missing persons, etc., help ensure said people don’t get help. I hope they really did get rid of him.

It happens far more than anyone wants to believe. Paramedics have stopped giving critical care after finding out patients are transgender or gay. Black and indigenous women go missing all the time and nobody but their family looks for them. Black men call the police for crimes committed against them and get shot. Hate combined with even everyday power that average people can achieve is still extremely deadly.

Goddamit. The Coast Guard used to be the one branch of the military that actually had decent folks in it, discharge this yahoo immediately. Preferably out of a deck gun.

Semi-serious question: Does the Coast Guard have any ships with deck guns big enough for a person?

I’m at least slightly impressed the CG removed the guy so quickly.

I think after that Nazi Zina Bash threw up the white power sign at the Supreme Court nomination hearing it was much harder for the mainstream to ignore it as a twitter troll any longer and now they are forced to address it in the form of punishment yet they are smart not to give the symbol the validation that the Nazis so desperately want, just like any other terrorist org they need recruitment tools and propaganda.

Exactly, no pointless debate about what the gesture means or doesn’t mean, just “you got caught screwing around on TV, you are out of here.”

Yeah there’s zero ambiguity there. Can’t say he was giving a nonverbal okay to someone off camera. It was clearly the alt right/white power version. Also shows how racism and stupid often go hand in hand. He could have held his hand up like he was non verbally responding to someone off camera and given himself plausible deniability but nope he made it clear what he meant by it. He might as well stood and gave the Nazi salute or started waving a confederate flag.

I’m way behind the times. I had no idea that that was a hand signal.

I noticed how he looked deliberately at the camera before doing it. It sure looks deliberate.

Note to self: don’t inadvertently do that. Add it to the list of things not to do, such as wearing a white polo shirt with khakis (one or the other, but not both at the same time).

Yeah I try to give this stuff a grain of salt because I feel like there’s so many goddamn dogwhistles now I just assume I’ve probably done one by accident at some point.

However, he clearly glares at the camera, turns, and makes that gesture perfectly with no hint of ambiguity.

You’re out of line with the Reebok wisecrack. The original pumps helped Dee Brown dunk like a motherfucker.

And Dee Brown got thrown to the sidewalk with guns to his head for being black in Wellesley. People working at a bank thought he was a bank robber from earlier in the week.

As bank robbers do they return to the scene to stroll down Main street with their white wife pretending to shop.

Bet he was wearing celtic issued Reeboks when it happened.

Oh jeez. Im currently staying in Wellesley. It hasn’t improved much. When I was in high school, there was an incident where a black first grader (whose family also lived in Wellesley) was put on the wrong bus home on the first day of school. The dumbass teacher assumed he was an “inner-city” student, so he was put on the bus with the students who were part of an integration program for kids living in/around Boston. The poor kid ended up getting dropped off 45 minutes away in Dorchester, where luckily, another student’s mother helped him.

The incident was reported in the local papers, which was pretty embarassing for the town. Completely deserved though, considering how hurtful and frightening it was for the little boy and his family.
