Tisha James and (ugh) Cuomo rode the wave of black and Latino votes to victory. “Progressives” need to take note and start making their message palpable to more than just the lily white if they want more than just isolated, infrequent victories.

    James said it best:

“Progressive rhetoric alone is not enough — people are struggling just to survive here, and they need to see real substantive policies that address racial, gender and economic inequality.”

I’m white, so take my words with the grain of the whitest salt.

When I helped campaigns in 2016, I really noticed how “progressives” really turned a blind eye to POC or other various groups.

I’m a teacher and I help a lot of ELLs or ESL students who are a lot of times potential DREAMERS with families who have just arrived to the country. The amount of apathy I saw from these “progressives” when I mentioned how can we help them was startling. I never thought that this group could exhibit such apathy and - sometimes - disgust with the notion of helping out people like this.

Maybe they did care about these people, but they were more blind to “well, we need to implode the establishment” instead of thinking about the consequences of not voting for their preferred candidate. That’s what (capital P) Progressives do think about. Hopefully we see more of them and less of the other type.

I’ve only read a little bit on Letitia James and it’s great to see another Black woman in a position of power. What I do know is that Andrew Cuomo is a corrupt piece of dog shit and to willingly align herself with him is a red flag for me.

I expect her to be great on social justice issues, but if her original comments in a recent New York Times piece are to be believed, it’s unlikely she’ll be nearly as vigilant on economic justice issues, corporate corruption in particular.

As a Black progressive, both issues are important to me and aren’t mutually exclusive as they both my effect my humanity and survival.

I will hold out hope and we need more black women every where.  but once you take Cuomo’s endorsement you are the establishment. He is such a sack of crap that anyone who is actually progressive would stay far away from him. Teachout said if ellected she would investigate that corrupt sob. Will James? If she is as progressive as she claims she will.
