      That was pretty standard for the original stop-motion series (first 5 or 6 seasons or so), and the books they’re based on. It was much more mellow than it is now. You should see when they talk about the threat of being scrapped... especially in the books.

    I’ll be honest, when I was a punk-rock teenager swinging baseball bats at the Mount Olive Nazis, I really never thought that straight-up, open-air Nazism would become 100% mainstream in this country. Maybe I was naive, but this is literally White Aryan Resistance-style propaganda from one of the largest mainstream right-wing organizations in the country, with insane political clout. The pimple-faced boneheads with swastika and confederate flags in their bedrooms in the trailer park must be shitting themselves with glee. I truly don’t know how we recover from this.

    They’re just mad that they can’t see Nia as a “white” train since it is obvious that she isn’t meant to be white.

    What is their definition of “forced diversity” if you go to a different part of the world you meet different people from a different culture... I’m not sure how they met Nia but should Thomas have just ignored her and said “you can’t be my friend”?

    I’m willing to bet that the show has had trains where the background is based off other countries and cultures. Like a Scottish train or something, and they didn’t say a word.

      Correct! My son was obsessed with Thomas (we live in Australia) when he was two and lots of the trains have different accents signaling different ethnicities like Gordon’s brother the “flying Scotsman” An imported engine named Hiro is clearly Japanese. Victor the railway mechanic is Spanish. And in a Thomas movie The Great Race (ha!) Thomas's love interest is an Indian girl engine named Ashima.
