A Drop of Hell, A Touch of StrangeAngela Helm

This sucks for everyone involved. It was the parents who found out and told the police the kids were lying so I’m sure those children are getting punished appropriately. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for cops or sex offenders but no one likes their time to be wasted or to see the inside of a cell for no reason. But my big takeaway from all this is that it takes being a convicted sex offender who does odd jobs in the neighborhood for a white man to be profiled like a black person.

I’m chilled to the bone that you’re taking the DA’s statement at face value. Genuinely, truly horrified. Does the reaction of the family not tell you anything? Of course not, because niggers always lie, right?

I know, (if true) it sucks because we live in a world where it was completely believable that a man would do this to a child and now whenever it does happen people will be like but remember the time the kids made it up???? It’s crazy that the kids managed to pick such a believable target tho, like a known sex offender. That makes me wonder if he did do other things to the kids and they figured pinning this on him was no big deal.

Sorry, not buying it. I have siblings around these children’s age and I know that sometimes a little kid’s retelling of events can be off. If those prosecutors were bombarding these three with questions and feeding them information to get the answers they wanted, then I’d suspect those kids would have trouble recounting what happened.

The girl was peed on and they had a suspect. All they have to do is run a dna test and if the urine doesn’t match, the whole case falls apart. And why wouldn’t the prosecutors try and throw a convicted sex offender back to prison? Our legal system LOVES to set convicts up for failure so even if they served their time, they’ll more likely end up back behind bars one way or another.

Uh, urine does not generally contain DNA.

The story here isn’t that some kids lied to get out of trouble. That’s a ‘dog bites man’ dealie: not news.

The story, is how the police reacted to it.

It’s kind of getting ridiculous that we still have a ‘round up the usual suspects’ attitude in modern police work. That’s got to be addressed at the governmental level.

    It’s WAY past time.

It wasn’t the round up the usual suspects. The kids described the guy and the cops went out, found him and arrested him. The kids lied. The police reacted appropriately.

Since they lied, their parents should tear that tail up and make them apologize to the man in question. This doesn’t help. Home training folk, home training.

He’s a convicted sex offender. They should not be forced to speak to him directly. They should apologize for lying, and wasting police time & resources on a crime that was committed by another child (possibly the girl's brother - which is bad enough). But considering their ages, they should not be made to suffer over this lie, as that will only teach them they need to get better at lying or they will suffer severe consequences. And the boy who peed on his sister should probably get some special attention, because that isn't normal behavior in the slightest.

      “Tear that tail up”

Yes. Because fucking beating children fixes everything.

      Who starred this nonsense?

Classic. Children recanting abuse is absolutely classic people.

This alleged investigation-conclusion by prosecutors/cops is the routinely quick, easy, and classic dismissal of a Black victim. Noted: the immediately dismissive statement by law enforcement regarding the child involved in an incident experiencing being pissed upon, suffered no injuries. These cowardly miscreants wouldn’t piss on an investigation on fire involving Black children.

Henceforth, I will that I won’t read any story involving injury and/or death related to Black people, especially children. I become so enraged and feel so helpless.

Thee trolls were absolutely gleeful at this one. You know, the trolls with “nigger” and “negroe” in their names; you know, totally legitimate and genuine people.

In any case, how in the world did children so young come up with such a graphic story, and how did the cops have a suspect and a whole theory out there in the media so quickly?

Maybe, we should stop teaching young POC to always play the victim and blame white people when something goes wrong.

Im okay with a sex offender having to go through that ordeal even if they didnt commit this crime. Lets them know that the police are around at any given time and can scoop him up

I think they already know that as terms for getting out of prison at all. Being a sex offender means you have to let local law enforcement know where you live among other things.

Once again, Mr. Harriot aggressively pursues something that turns out to be wrong, including posting a man’s name.

Y’all gonna take any action over this?

Yeah, probably not. Mr. Harriot is the prized writer at The Root and you can’t risk losing him or The Root dies, even if there are far more talented writers there with a more even-handed approach who can actually present a thoughtful argument.
