    She’s trash. Horrible.

Um...so Sacred Heart University didn’t do anything to help these young men out after they found out they were victims of a young slewfoot?

I know, I know. They get a pass but they really shouldn’t. There should be something done to fix the damage done to those folks.

    (tl;dr warming)

Anyone here with college age sons? If so, how are tackling the topic of consent before they move out.

My son is 17 years old, and while I’m very reluctant to come to terms with it, he’s sexually active with his girlfriend. He’s due to go off to school next fall. And the nightmare those 2 young boys went through is what I’m terrified of when my son moves out. Yes, I know the odds of a false rape accusation it remote. But those odds are irrelevant when a false accusation happens to you or your child.

And it’s not only false accusations that terrify me. It can be something like sexual miscommunication with someone he’s interested in. Hell, some adults have a difficult time understanding sexual consent. So I can only imagine what it’s like for an inexperienced teenage boy. What was seen as okay a few years ago, is a potential arrestable offense today. I’m just praying that his father and I properly prepared and educated him on the topic.

He’s already had many one-on-one private talks with his Dad about sex. I tried my best to explain what consent means, educate him on who is able to give it, and under what circumstances they’re able to give it. I explicitly explained to him if the girl has had ANYTHING to drink, smoke, or ingest that is mind altering, SHE CANNOT CONSENT. While I know this is not necessarily true, and a person can still consent after a glass of wine. It’s just one less thing to worry about imo. I also explained that while it might be a mood killer to him, he must ask everytime if this is something she actually wants to do, and to always get an explicit “yes”. But even with a verbal “yes”, if there is any sign of doubt/hesitation from her, especially non-verbal, as in a shrug of the shoulders, or change in voice tone, do not proceed.

Even with all of our talks, I’m just worried that we’re probably missing something. He doesn’t drink, smoke weed, or take pills(as far as I know). But I even went as far as to tell him to never ever offer a girl alcohol, weed, etc. If she wants some, she can figure out how to buy it herself. Overboard? Probably. But I’d rather he be a bit overly cautious than there be any confusion as to whether or not a girl gave him consent.

Does anyone know if the 2 students, the real victims in this story, could possibly sue? Granted they may not get much immediately. But when she finally gets a job, I’d think she’d have her wages garnished. And she’d have to look at her pay stub every time she's paid, and see part of it goes to the men she tried to ruin.

“Anyone here with college age sons? If so, how are tackling the topic of consent before they move out.”

I don’t have sons, but I’m gonna speak from experience.

      1. The most basic thing any man should do when having sex with, well, anyone is to make sure everybody is on the same page. Porn shit is basically just the guy getting his, but that’s not how the real world work. So, for me, I always let her know what I’m about to do. Or, if its a new partner—I ask. Because you never really know what a partner is up for. Shit, tell him to work it into the fore play.

      2. And I think this goes with 1. Your son should have basic empathy for another human being. A lot of these guys who get caught up in these sexual assaults do it because they don’t give a shit whether or not the girl actually gave consent. All they care about is that they got their dicks wet, so they can brag to their fellow fuckboys about how they get laid. Don’t let your son be a fuckboy. If he sees women as actual people, then he’s less likely to try and hurt someone.

      3. For gods sakes, he should not go for the girl whose clearly beyond fucked up. Because that’s a situation that can go either way. Either she wakes up in the morning and goes “AH NO, NOT AGAIN!!!” or she freaks out because she doesn’t even remember who she went to bed with.  I think that’s just common sense.

Thanks for the useful tips. Figured some other parents might have similar concerns too.

Now you would think much of what you said is basic common sense. But from what I hear, common sense can easily go out the window when the hormones of teenage boys get going. I’ve never been a teen boy, so I don’t know how much the urge to have sex can make a boy do dumb shit. Just hoping wise choices are made when he leaves.

Yep. They should be able to sue her for everything that she has and will have. Honestly, she should never have been allowed to take a plea deal. The prosecutor should have went for the max with her. She should have gotten a felony, made spent all of the three years in jail and signed up as a sex offender. Her lies ruined two lives.

This is the only way they learn that times have changed. Ask Emmitt Till’s family now over 60s years late now that his accuser has been find out a liar.

I watched a bit of the video. Even after being outed for her lies and convicted, she was still protected. When the second victim was called up they made sure to move her to the left side of her lawyer as a means of protection.

Even after he had been vindicated.

He articulated his position well and without a hint of bitterness (far better person than me)even gave a shout out to the #MeToo movement and yet she stood there with such a look of petulance on her face.

I think it’s time for a conversation about men who’ve been falsely accused be started.

I agree, wholeheartedly!!! White women have been making these kinds of accusations against black men for decades as some sick game of revenge, retribution or just plain feelings of exerting power.  Then because of their "whiteness" black men's denials of the crime go unheeded.

Both young men denied the claim and said that the sex was consensual. Police conducted a full investigation.

Yovino admitted months later that she made the story up in an attempt to get sympathy from a young man she was hoping to date.

    I’m...confused.

God grant that she takes her release lightly, violates her probation, violates it again while awaiting trial for her first violation, then be forced to serve out her original sentence. And the devil grant that she mouths off to the wrong woman while in prison, and gets whupped like whole cream a couple-few times.

Women in jail are much more likely to be survivors of sexual assault, than women in the general population. This trash is in jail for lying about being raped so her crush would nooooooooooootice her. I don’t think she’ll have to mouth off to piss them off.

Who said black females don’t do this? If you look at history you see a long story of white females using their “womanhood” to wage war on black men. Gtfo and go back to Jezebel. Cry them white tears somewhere else

What’s your point? Why should Monique bring up a case from 2006? If she was going to comment on other false rape allegations, why not bring up the much more recent Rolling Stone fiasco?

uhh black women do this too.

You have to go back over a decade to find a case that fits your racist agenda. Got it.

No point suing her now; she can declare bankruptcy as she has no income, and move on. Wait until she gets out of jail and gets a job first and then sue and apply for a wage garnishment. The only way they’d see any money from her now is if she already had significant financial assets to seize.
