Question: is cities getting sued for diluting minority representation by using at-large voting rather than geographic districts just a California thing, or is it nationwide? A ton of cities in California in which Anglos are either a plurality or an outright minority continued to have all-white governments for a long time because they used at-large voting (and IIRC this was used in Lynwood and Compton to maintain all-black city councils as well).
If this is a nationwide phenomenon, a school district that’s 46% nonwhite but has a 100% white board due to at-large representation is tomato-in-late-August ripe for a lawsuit (h/t Burneko).

  My hometown city go sued for just that, their board is full of white people while the city population was more diverse in it’s makeup.
  Everyone else is not white, even most of the business in the city is not white, it’s really fucked up.
  Also, those board members are in affluent areas of the city that is mostly made up of rich white people and there’s so little of them working directly in the city.

This doublespeak is amazing.
A lawyer for the school board said they are still trying to determine the authenticity of the recordings, saying the board has “been unable to determine its veracity and authenticity and whether the recording was altered and was at the consent of at least one party or the product of illegal surveillance.” He continued, saying, “Our investigation continues into this matter, but we are hamstrung in that the plaintiff has failed or refused to produce the original recording for testing or provide any information concerning the background or foundation of the recording.”
I really need for people who have no idea how sound gets edited to lay off of the “Law and Order” jargon. Seriously, they actually think someone spent time and EFFORT to set up Boss Hogg? And if it was taped illegally they seriously going to let this dude keep his job???

  An illegal recording might matter if police were operating without cause and without a warrant, or if this were a criminal proceeding. It should not matter to the school board. This kind of stalling makes me suspicious of the rest of the board. He’s not the only racist there.

  He’s a perfect example, people local to him elected him. That got him his start, and he ends up becoming President. All the more reason to pay attention to local politics, that guy who has an idea about how to help the local community might have some ideas that could help the country as a whole, just gotta go vote for him.
