  I think all sorts of people say, “It’s a joke!” I have had non-white students call me a “faggot,” or tell me that I “dress like a faggot” and then say, “It’s a joke!” It doesn’t help that the administration expects me to just deal with this shit on my own.

I’m a transplant to KC and have lived here for about 11 years now. Pretty much par for the course in this shithole. These people are everywhere. Also, Westport is considered the oldest and most historic part of the city and it’s basically just a bunch of cheap strip malls placed where they plowed down anything of historical significance. Place sucks, is really dangerous, and filled largely with lily white assholes from the suburbs.
I’ve got one year left on my lease and I couldn’t be more excited to get the fuck out of here.

  What brought you to KC? I remember being a kid in California and being fascinated that such an obscure place like “Kansas City Missouri” has a baseball team and a football team.
  I also remember bartending in San Francisco and a group of Australians came in. I asked them where else they were going, and they said, “Many places, but also Kansas City, MO,” they said with an obvious tone of reluctance. They apparently won a free trip from some company, Hallmark I believe, and weren’t that jazzed about KCMO. Yeah, I get it, but I think they should have been more open minded, because...free trip. If I won a free trip to some random-ass non-famous city in Australia, I think I would be a bit more “glass half full” about it. In fact, I kind of relish having an excuse to go somewhere random because I wouldn’t ordinarily go there on my own.

  I went to university here and got a good job so I stayed. But 11 years is too much. The inferiority complex is massive, which makes the people insufferable. Everyone drives slow and under the speed limit, and then claim it’s because they’re “laid back” when in reality it’s because this city has some of the world’s stupidest fucking people when it comes to driving. It’s really just a small, basic Midwestern city with no real excitement, outside of the daily shootings that seem to be plaguing the city, especially this month.
  If I was from another country and was awarded a free trip to KC, I’d take it, it’s big enough to fill a weekend with some mediocre shit and some basic museums, but there are way better places to hang out, even in the Midwest. Chicago, St. Louis, the Twin Cities are all better places to spend time. Especially Chicago and the Twin Cities (I was very pleasantly surprised on my first trip to Minneapolis and St. Paul. Two very wonderful cities...in the summer at least). Hell, I’d visit Detroit, Baltimore, and Cleveland before I’d voluntarily visit KCMO.
  KC is just a large Omaha or Des Moines, and quite honestly I hear Des Moines has more going for it lol.
