    “When Oregon was granted statehood in 1859, it was the only state in the Union admitted with a constitution that forbade black people from living, working, or owning property there. It was illegal for black people even to move to the state until 1926. ” (Article 1, Section 35, Oregon constitution)

    “The Oregon Supreme Court had decided in the 1906 case Taylor v. Cohn that black people could be legally segregated from whites in public places. That particular ruling wasn’t struck down in the state until 1953"

    The 14th Amendment of the US Constitution was not ratified in Oregon until 1973.

    Nationwide, blacks make up about 12% of the population. In Oregon, it’s 3%.

      Actually, they were the fifth state to ratify it in 1866.

      They then voted to rescind that ratification in 1868.

      Robert Ritchie, otherwise known as “Kid” (quotation marks ‘cause he ain’t no kid) “Rock” (quotation marks ‘cause he sure don’t rock) is a fucking yutz, and his fans are no better. This is not in dispute. That said, there is one thing that needs to be cleared up, and I don’t know how many times I’ve had to do this, but I’m about to do it again:

      Kid Rock is NOT from Detroit! That no-talent jabroni hails from fucking Romeo, MI. Romeo is 40 miles outside of Detroit, and 90% of the population of Romeo is white. This is not by accident. No P.O.C. with half a working brain would be caught dead anywhere near Romeo, MI. As a native Detroiter, I am disgusted not only by the fact that Robert Ritchie has the nerve to claim Detroit as his hometown, but also, by the fact that nobody outside of Detroit seems to know any better.

      Fuck Robert Ritchie. Fuck those Confederate flag-waving troglodytes.

      And, fuck “Kid” “Rock”.

    BTW, for some additional context on Robert Ritchie, his ass grew up on a six-acre estate out in one of the furthest flung exurbs. Ritche’s ass grew up rich, pun intended. It’s almost the identical story for Madonna. Then they all ended up downtown in Detroit with the blacks and the gays and the other “undesirables” to piss off mommy and daddy.

    PLEASE stop saying Kid Rock is from Detroit. He’s from Macomb County. I thank Erin Marquis from Jalopnik, and a Detroit native, for this info and enlightening me on the subject.

    Macomb County is 84% white. That fuckstick does NOT represent anyone except his own racist self and people like him who “grew up near” people of color.

    Uh, first, why would a brother go to a Kid Rock concert? Second, when go, why do you not think that there would not be any Confederate flags being waved there?

    With that said, he should have known better to say anything. But since he didn’t, I hope the perpetrator is caught.

    Note to black folk, if you attend a concert with someone of Kid Rock’s ilk, expect to see that disgusting flag.

      It doesn’t matter if it was a music festival with an eclectic group of musicians.

      If one of the performers is championing the Confederate flag, you should know full well that there will be some folk among the concert goers that will proudly display it without any regard to others.

      My surname is Ulster-Scots/Scots-Irish and I trace my heritage in the US on that line to York, PA around 1700. (It goes back further on my paternal grandmother’s side, to Ipswich, MA in the 1640s). The original meaning of “redneck” refers to the red neckerchiefs that Ulster-Scots men wore.

      I know who these folks are. My ancestors embraced the ministry and book learning rather than continued shitkicking. Unfortunately, most of the folks of that background didn’t.
