I don’t know why. His chance of conviction in these current times, where pwning the libs and supporting Trump is more important to rightwingers than following the law, means he would have a pretty good chance of, if not aquittal then at least a perpetual hung jury.

So unless Cohen can produce paper or recorded evidence, his testimony is of little use to his base or the GOP. The GOP still feel no pressure to impeach Trump.  So unless you can convince them that NOT impeaching him will destroy their party for a generation, they won’t do anything other than express their disappointment.

GIven Cohan has a history of recording things, its possible their may be recordings and/or paper. But how much and covering what.. that’s the question. Also if he pleas out, then its possible the other documents he has become open for scrutiny. (the ones Trump wants off the paper).

But remember folks.. this is all how “innocent” men act.. casting stones, throwing tantrums.. lies upon lies.. and all to say “I’m innocent”. So next time you are in front of a cop.. do the same.. and lets see how it all turns out.

Is Manafort losing that case? The judge has been trying to hamstring the prosecution from Day 1.

Manafort found guilty on 8 counts. Will be retried on the other 10.

I’m like an eight-year-old kid right now. I want to believe in Santa, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t one.

I want to believe that Cohen is going to provide the smoking guns that will take down not only Trump, but his entire administration, and ultimately damage the Republican brand for a generation.

But then I look at the trial of Paul Manafort, in which the prosecution provided a Himalaya of evidence and witnesses, and the defense didn’t even bother to mount a case, and the jury has been deliberating since Thursday*. All it takes is one or two nihilist Trumpist know-nothings to spoil everything, and there is a much larger percentage of those in Congress than in the population at large.

*Note: according to The Hill, the jury has reached a verdict on 8 of the 18 counts, but we do not yet know what those verdicts are

If the deal doesn’t involve cooperating with Mueller, then they probably got all they could get out of him already. My guess is they told him he was fucked a while ago and this was in the works. Either way, next up is Tangerine Jr.

I think it’s kind of weird people are even considering that there isn’t a deal of cooperation attached to this. Of course there is, or he wouldn’t be pleading; the charges are too serious for him to plead out, otherwise.

There are scenarios where it his future cooperation may not be a requirement for this settlement. As noted above, one may be that he simply has nothing left to give. But keep in mind that this case wasn’t brought by Mueller, it was recommended to the federal prosecutors because it had to do with tax evasion relating to his taxi medallions, and not necessarily anything to do with Trump. It’s very likely that Mueller has additional pending charges against him that would require his cooperation anyway (like helping Trump evade taxes and launder money from Russian oligarchs).
