Doesn’t make sense. If you accidentally hit a kid, it seems like you would be on your knees praying that he was okay, apologizing, comforting him. The last thing you’d do would be to handcuff him, because you’d really, really screwed up.

Also for the umpteenth time, when you can’t catch some kid who did something insignificant in any conceivable framing of the universe, and he slips away, don’t make it all about you. Have a freaking sense of humor and shake your fist in the air and shout: Darn you! Next time I’ll catch up with you and your 16-year-old-riding-a-bike-without-lights-on criminal ways!

That way you can look in the mirror without it shattering into smithereens.

Bless your heart for thinking they see these kids as 16-year-old-children-riding-a-bike or “kids” for that matter.

The child flouted the cop’s authority, the penalty for which is often death. You have to treat cops very carefully, like wild animals; the slightest provocation can trigger homicidal rage.

For not having a light, ffs. JUST LET THE KID GO. What is that, a ticket? A fine? Not worth running him down for.

Now the city is going to have to settle for six digits over a nothing fine. Citizens should be outraged for the sake of humanity, but there are a lot of pieces of shit humans out there so here’s another appeal:

Arent you tired of the cops wasting your tax money to fix their fuckups?

“Just 27 MPH” — that’s actually plenty fast to cause considerable damage. A good friend of mine was recently hit by a car going much slower than that, and suffered severe shoulder damage — as in, he’s probably never going to be able to lift that arm above his head again, because the bicep was detached from the shoulder, and it’s not entirely repairable. He was hit by a woman who had just started going from a full stop and hit him in the pedestrian crossing while she was turning right, and was thrown about fifteen feet from his powerchair. It’s been months, and he still can’t work because of the pain and the extreme limitations this has imposed on his primary arm.

And that woman hit him a lot slower than 27 MPH.

There’s not really anything “just” about 27 MPH. That’s actually fast enough to be potentially lethal. It’s a damn miracle that kid wasn’t hurt worse.

Your friend was already riding a powerchair and got hit by a damn car? He clearly just has no sort of luck at all.

(mass x velocity)2 = force. that car has a lot of mass.

The officer driving the SUV was reportedly going just 27 mph when it struck the teen...

Ain’t nothin’ “just” about a body getting hit at 27 mph. Hell, that’s Usain Bolt’s top speed over 100m, and he’s the fastest human being on planet earth.

He added that officers are authorized to use their vehicles to stop suspects only in “extreme circumstances.”

This was clearly not one of those circumstances. Do better, Sacramento PD. Be best.

Notably, Usain Bolt also doesn’t weigh 4000+ pounds, so just 27 mph is a stupid attempt to excuse what would otherwise be a criminal offense.

These pigs are just looking for any trifling excuse to abuse someone. How the fuck does a lack of a light on a bicycle warrant a chase much less a vehicular take down.

When are we going to admit that we just have a bunch of sadists in uniforms and that entire institution of law enforcement needs to be dismantled and rebuilt using a different model than that of the slave patrols from which our police “evolved?”

The video comes just as the department has adopted a new foot chase policy in the wake of the shooting death of Stephon Clark in March.

The Don’t Shoot/Run Them Down policy is off to a smashing success!

After the boy is hit, the video shows the officer get out of his vehicle, roll the teen over, and handcuff him.

So tried to paralyse him then? Because even cops get enough basic aid training in what to do at traffic collisions to know that you do not rough handle people who’ve contacted with a car like that in case of spinal injuries.

On July 22, Sacramento police officers were in pursuit of a 16-year-old boy who had been stopped for riding a bike without a light on it.

Ostensibly, the reason for their ability to stop him over something so trivial is because it is “unsafe” to ride without a light...but then they HIT HIM WITH A CAR!!! THE ABSOLUTE FUCK! Then the literally add insult to injury when they handcuff him!! That alone says he did this shit on purpose. The cop didn’t skip a beat. PLEASE NAACP SEND THEM A LAWYER! Seriously, can someone tell me if the NAACP does that? And if not, why the hell not! At this point why isn’t the NAACP just a law firm that deals with cases like this and all sort of discrimination and racism.

The officer then asks the boy where he was hurt.

Probably the region where he was hit by an SUV.

If I did my math right(which is... questionable at best), that kid was hit with enough force to break his femur. Now, if the SUV didn’t do it, surely dropping to the ground after being hit by the SUV did.

      No.

      Okay.
Assuming the SUV was around two tons and going around 30 mph, it should amount to somewhere around 24k Newtons.
So, converting to metric makes it 18oo kg.*13 m/s^2=[this should be a squiggly equals sign, since it’s an approximation] 24N and according to Live Science:

A quick, sharp blow that delivers some 3,300 newtons of force has a 25 percent chance of cracking an average person’s rib, she said. It takes more force to fracture the femur, Bir noted — maybe some 4,000 newtons — since that long thighbone is meant to support the body.
