Hmm, so odd, because it sure DID seem to matter whose sermons Barack Obama attended before becoming President. It also mattered whether or not Bill Clinton smoked pot before becoming President.

It’s like these people are limp-spined, hypocritical slime or something.

That was during her unpaid, unofficial “terms” as 1st Lady.

As was the famous “shout out to CJ, tha Bloods, Crips & Kings” fistbump they both learned at Harvard.

I just DGAF about Melania’s tittie-pix. Obvs Giuliani can't respect a woman like that.

White people will never attempt to change anything unless it benefits whiteness as a whole.

Story Time! I work for a pasty ass law firm, and one of the hires some time ago was overly racist as hell. Bitch would talk about Jews, Mexicans, Blacks, and everybody else in between. Complaints were made to the partners of the firm, not a damn thing was done. No individual meeting with her, nothing. These passive ass MFers sent out a form-wide email stating: everyone should respect each other. Dasssit. No name dropping, no finger pointing, Nada.

Like most terrible white people, she left on her own accord without a scratch, blip, or hiccup.

Dear white people, it would behoove you to speak up early on. We, the POC of this generation are NOT our grandparents. We have the right to vote, we are just as educated as you are... Often times moreso... And will beat your ass (physically, verbally, intellectually, take your pick). Stop with the complacency and silence. Not only is it nauseating, it’s also detrimental and life threatening.

That’s pretty much the same thing Trump did when he tweeted “I condemn all types of racism and acts of violence.” the day before that KKK (yes, KKK)rally here in DC.

If white people had to do the work of building this country themselves they would still be at it. There is no way that they would have been able to do the work. They went to a whole other continent and dragged the people here to do the work, pretended they were not people to justify this and they have been reaping the rewards ever since. Even the people that became “white” to boost their numbers did so on the backs of black people. Avenues that were closed to black people, the civil service and after WWII, G.I. Bills didn’t benefit black Americans. Black people did not live in Levittown. What Donald Trump and the Republican Party want to do and are busy packing the courts to do are legislate black people back into the second class, not even citizens since they definitely are trying to prevent black people from voting as well.

To be more specific, the notion of “white people” didn’t exist before America and slavery. They’d think of themselves as Englishmen or Frenchmen or Spaniards or such, but not “white.” The notion of “white” arose largely from forging a new identity defined by what it was not - blackness. It existed to unify those disparate European identities into a racial/ethnic consensus. Moreover, we can look at how which groups were considered “white” has changed drastically over time. In the late 1700s, the Germans were considered foreign and scary, but when it became clear that maintaining a majority depended on it, they were admitted to Club White. So too have various other southern and eastern Europeans that were once deemed suspect been handed passes.

Meanwhile, as you note, almost all of the social programs and safety net improvements made over the past century in the US were passed either with the tacit or explicit understanding that the benefits would not go to black people. It is only after the Civil Rights movement meant that those benefits could no longer be denied that we see large swathes of “conservatives” turning against them, and oh-so-coincidentally using “undeserving urban welfare queens” as their poster child for abuses. Funny how that works.

“If white people had to do the work of building this country themselves they would have failed long ago.” FTFY

White people in this country are THE laziest people we have. They’d have given up since someone couldn’t do the work for them.

Case in point - there are tons of landscaping and gardening jobs now opening up because of the ICE raids taking innocent people from their families, yet these white people won’t take those jobs, oh no, they’re too fucking lazy.

Rosa Parks never sat in the white section of that Montgomery Bus. She was sitting in the black section when bus driver James Blake moved the colored section sign behind the seat where Parks was already seated...

In other words, already complying with white supremacist bullshit but still get shot/beaten/tased/arrested/removed.

But....but.... blacks use the n word in rap songs! Therefore it’s ok.

And it was one group of Africans who’d capture and sell other slavery, so, really, blacks are the cause of slavery, or at least just as complicit, not whites!

Did I forget a talking point? I don’t know, I’m still mesmerized by madonna’s long struggle to be who she is, all thanks to Aretha. I could listen to her praise Aretha all day...

I just don’t understand this shit anymore. When I was a kid growing up in the 90s, no one ever had to tell us white kids can’t use the n word even though black kids/adults could. At least within my circle of peers, we just understood that it was something hurtful with a racist history and that within black circles it had a different context. It didn’t need to be spelled out, it was just understand because it really is that fucking simple. Queue 2018 and the whole damn world has gone crazy. I guess in reality it always was. I find myself at work correcting people my age who really should know better everyday. Pretty much anywhere I go really. Maybe some (referring mainly to white in this instance) people start out okay when they are younger and just start to get crazier and feeling entitled as they grow older.

There was never a time when white people using the n-word was not racist. But there was a time when white people could use the n-word without facing any consequences, only because other white people didn’t care...

Williams believes it is “bad” and unacceptable for anyone to say the n-word, but it is ok for a person who is bad and unacceptable to lead the free world.

Thanks for the break own of the problem.

I live in the rural south and you made it easy to tell the many, lizard-brained GOP political candidates why they can’t put a sign in my yard or a banner in front of my wife’s store.

This GOP relationship with Trump can simple be chalked up to the fact that white men(especially mediocre white men) can get away with a lot more BS than any woman or POC. Look how Auntie Maxine was treated by both parties. Even Pelosi turned against her.

Also add in that the GOP isn’t as diverse as the Democratic party so you won’t find as many people in Trump’s party being offended by the things he says. Or at least brave enough to say anything.

Hell yes. To all of this.

When moderates and centrists, who are usually soft white liberals, tell us to calm down, relax and to go with them instead of real progressives, their lack of urgency and their vision of maintaining the status quo tells me everything I need to know about them.

They don’t want “justice,” they don’t want progress for all, because they don’t need it. They want to maintain the system that directly benefits them, over anyone else, even if they proclaim to have friends of color, or are dating a POC. They can’t rock the boat because to rock the boat would mean that there is something inherently immoral and wrong about the system that benefits them, and they can’t be evil like the hooded Klan members or neo-Nazis marching down the streets in 2018. They just can’t fathom that, indeed, they are helping those vile right wing thugs just as much as they need, without having to even lift a goddamn finger.

    Fuck them.

Williams went on to explain that Donald Trump is old, so he shouldn’t be vilified for racism because it was ok back then.

My calculator tells me Trump came of age at the exact same time the civil rights movement was going on so I’m pretty sure this last bit isn’t true.

The OP said it best. It was never okay, but white people used to be able to get away with it. Which is why they *thought* it was okay — nobody was telling them otherwise. But it wasn’t okay. It was part of the total system of oppression. And still is.

Age has nothing to do with it. My white parents are older than racist-in-chief. I don’t want to imagine what would either have done to my born-in-the-60s white ass had I spoken or acted in a racist way. Their parents, older still, almost certainly would have held the same standard while raising their children in the 40s.

tldr: Senator Williams is making convenient but untrue excuses.
